FR Interactive Atlas Trouble [Archive] - Wizards Community

03-01-06, 12:12 AM Ok, I uninstalled and reinstalled my interactive atlas. I then followed the directiosn to the letter for all 3 patches.

The atlas works fine until I hit the globe button to watch it spin. It used to work but when I got this new comp, I keep getting the same error message. So, I come here in hopes someone can help me figure it out so I can get my spinning globe back.

When I click the globe icon, I get the following:

Globe MFC Application has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Error Signature:

AppName: globe.exe AppVer: 1.0.0.1 ModName: globe.exe
ModVer: 1.0.0.1 Offset: 0000359d

Anyone have any idea how to fix it?

03-01-06, 12:19 AM As far as anyone knows around here it's an issue with Windows XP. I assume your old computer had an older OS on it?

You could try right-clicking on the .exe file for the globe and go to Properties, then open the Compatibility tab. The first entry on that tab is Compatibility Mode, and has a check box. Check the box and select your old OS from the list, and then try running it. I don't know if it will work, as I don't have mine installed right now. If it does work, though, let me know, because I remember the last time I had mine installed my globe didn't work either.

03-01-06, 12:21 AM I also now have discovered since reloading it, that no names pop up. :( I get the purple clickies but no names on the map, legends, etc...

03-01-06, 12:45 AM That sounds like a font issue... open up your Fonts folder and see if "Forgotten Uncial" is in there.

03-01-06, 12:47 AM I restarted my comp and after it reloaded, the words appeared.

03-01-06, 12:48 AM Makes sense. Computers have a nasty tendency to not do things without a reboot. You installed the font for the Atlas, and without a reboot, the OS didn't get it loaded correctly. Ergo, no words.

03-01-06, 12:51 AM Tried the compatibility thing. No luck. Tried using Windows 95 and Windows 98 with no luck.

Don't know if it's even usable any more. It was an interesting addition, but not really necessary, imo. I can live without it.

03-01-06, 10:11 AM I have encountered and solved the same problem. Try to: Set up the maximum screen resolution you can. Do not care for colour depth and/or frequency - 1600×1200 is always better, than 1280×1024 etc. Start the Globe. If it does not start, I do not know what to do.:( If it does, disminish its window as far as you can. Do not hurry, for it can crush. Move the border line a bit, then exit and restart before moving again. Restore your original screen settings. If the Globe starts, set (once again, gradually and carefully) its window size as you need. If it does not, go to 1.:)

03-01-06, 03:24 PM Try to play with video modes. Not only resolution, maybe. The issue seems to be definitely DirectDraw-based.

03-01-06, 05:00 PM Bleh. I don't think I am going to worry about it. That is way too much work to make the stupid globe work.. And who knows what it will do to my other programs.
