Is anybody using this piece of software on an XP platform?

Yes, I am. And the one tool that I was looking forward to using the most does not work...the Globe tool. Have you experienced a similiar problem?

I don't have the software yet. I was considering buying it on Ebay, but I wanted to find out if it worked on XP first.

I do have an old computer with an ME platform. Perhaps I will fire up that old junker and make it the official Atlas machine.

Cheers!

Can anybody post more about what this software actually *does*? I've thought about buying it off ebay for years, but if it is just an electronic version of the FR Atlas that I have in print, I'll take a pass... Does it include maps from all FR products up to the date of release? What kind of fluff text is there, if any? Any reviews from folks still using it?

I haven't been able to test it on anything else but XP. I would assume it's completely functional on Win98 and 2000. I would be interested in knowing if the copy I purchased off Ebay was defective as far as the Globe app. or is it an XP issue? I sought support on this from Profantasy a while back and the tech. indicated that she was unaware of any issues with XP. She claimed she was going to research the issue further but never got back to me. Still upset about that.

In my case, I actually produce maps for a living and am an avid collector, so any FR product that combines two of my interests (maps and FR) I'm going to buy. The product does include all the maps that were published for FR up until the time the Atlas was released. There are a few sites out there that actually have maps that have been subsequently published and placed into the Atlas format from which you can view and interact with the maps in the Atlas.

The Atlas does not contain any "fluff" or extra documentation regarding the realms in print. Whatever text or labeling found on the maps is all you get. IMO, the $55 I spent purchasing the product on Ebay was worth it, even without the globe functioning in XP. I can print out the maps I want and even customize them in Campaign Cartographer for future use in my home campaing.

I'm running the FRIA with all three update patches on WinXP and don't have any problems with it that I didn't also have on Win98. A few links don't work, and certain maps have persistent problems about drawing the outlines of the symbols but not painting the color in if you do any zooming in or out, or sometimes just on the window refresh caused when you change focus to another window then back to FRIA.

The Globe app works just fine for me in WinXP, and I've gotten rather a lot of use out of it.

Fwiw, I just found this link for patches for the Interactive Atlas, while searching to find a place to buy it... I don't know what platforms the patches are for, but hopefully it'll help some of your problems...

The atlas hasnt been updated for 2 years, so changes are not represented for recent history, like cormyr's battle with the dragon and goblins.

However, I use it on XP and can print out maps of certain areas and atleast get a basic, if not crowded, description of most major cities and where the taverns are ect...

It is nice for that, and mapping must be done from these maps with a little imagination, for they are not the best for showing a travel plan on.

Anyway, I like the cities and the landmarks of note it shows. But you must update it with the patches. It makes a huge difference.

I'm running a fully updated XP Pro, including SP 2, and my Atlas works fine, even the globe.

If you own Campaign Cartographer then the Atlas maps are editable as well.
