I havn't seen any new FR adventure modules since the City of the Spider Queen. Does anyone else find this odd? Since Ebberon has been introduced, I have seen new adventures for only Ebberon, which its new and understandable it would have new adventures, however, it seems as if FR has been left on the curb so to speak. Has anyone heard about any new adventures in the FR setting?

For example i just started reading "The Year of Rouge Dragons." This would be an excellent chance to release a new module or even a series of new modules.

Any thoughts on this?

For awhile WOTC stopped producing them, except for what was printed in Dungeon, because 3rd party companies were doing so and WOTC was losing money on them.

Now, however, 3rd party companies have cut back on modules and so WOTC is working on new modules. Yes FR has a new module coming out and no none of us know what it entails at this time. :)

I'm not so sure adventures based on novels are a very good idea.

One of the frustrations for me with City of the Spider Queen was that the key background event, the Silence of Lolth, remains largely unresolved some three years or so since the module was published. I also wonder whether that was one of the reasons that CotSQ wasn't as successful a product as WotC hoped: who wants to DM an adventure not knowing what is really happening in the background?

Anyway, it would be the same with a series based on the Year of Rogue (not "rouge") Dragons, a couple of years would pass before all would be revealed.

No, if WotC is going to publish another FR adventure it needs to ensure that there is no novel tie-in particularly to ensure that the adventure is easily adaptable to other worlds.

I agree with you and that was one of the many complaints about the Spider Queen module I heard both online and from one of my old DM's.

I'd rather now not have a module tie into the novels either since the novels take sooooooo long to come out. At least with TSR it usually didn't take 1 to 3+ years to get a whole trilogy to come out......

Can I please remind you not to break the rules on novels.

For the rules about Forgotten Realms Novels please look at the Novels - Important Info - Read This! (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=185204) thread. Don’t try and guess what the rules are by reading other posts and threads, and don’t ask someone else what the rules are ... read them.

Thanks all :)

I've read the rules a couple of times and my post does not violate them.

I didn't discuss novels, per se, rather my opinion that tying an adventure to a series of novels that takes a couple of years to resolve is a very silly thing to do. Firstly, it frustrates the DM who doesn't have access to the full background information and, secondly, it may cause non-FR DMs to avoid purchasing the module.

Personally, I want the FR modules to sell well so that there can be more of them.

by mentioning a title of a book, i did not violate the "rules." Had i started discussing the novel in question, then i feel you would of had grounds for a verbal warning. This thread was started with a question asked by me, about Modules, not Novels. Had you read the thread you would of discovered this instead of jumping to a wrong conclusion.

I definitly see your point about having modules lead thier own stories, with their own conclusions and etc... I hadn't considered the point about the background story and ending and etc... I would just like to see more FR modules. I would however like to see the modules stay current with the current time line of the realms, which now that i say that, would that be bad thing as well?

Yeah it would be great for them to do something like Dl1-12 in the realms and write the novels later, people would go nuts for that...

You will have to forgiver her, she tends to react quickly to the word novel, just in case it isn't appropriate.
