FR Monks [Archive] - Wizards Community

06-21-03, 02:44 AM I was just looking at the Monk skill list in the 3.0 PHB and noticed something weird.

Monks get Knowledge Arcana as a class skill shouldnt this be Knowledge: religion see as how most Monastarys in Faerun inparticular are tied to a Church

What do you guys think?

06-21-03, 03:11 AM I believe they get that because of the Ki they channel..... I might be wrong though.

06-21-03, 06:36 AM For the unknowing , Ki would look like magic , but it's not ! It is the power that binds us all , and only through years of training can one tap in to this. So why knowledge arcana ? I don't know. And I'm not sure if a ( 3rd E ) monk should have the religion skill , because it's more a spiritual path than a religeus one. On the other hand many orders are associated with the many deities , so perhaps the should !?!?!

06-21-03, 06:51 AM I think it should be Knowledge religion. Ki is indeed not the same thing as the Weave. And the monks are connected to a deity (in most cases). You could also device your own knowledge skill. Something like Knowledge (ki) or (spiritual living). Is that any help to you, fellow Dutch-man :D?

I wouldn't see any harm in adopting this even if you're not playing OA; that's what I do in my campaign.

But in the Core books they dont have to be connected to a deity and also in the Core books there is no Weave. So it makes sense that it is knowledge arcana. Just like in the Core books Druids do not have to be connected to a deity either.
