Seems like the best time with such a big fantasy audience theses days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !! Plus anyone know of any books where cyric or mystra are involved as these r my fav characters!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
| Lord Karsus01-19-06, 10:28 AM | -One exclaimation point is more than enough. Anyway, as for Mystra and Cyric. They are some of the main characters in the Avatar Series, which includes: Shadowdale, Waterdeep, Tantras, Prince of Lies & Crucible: Trial of Cyric the Mad (All in no particular order). -As for a FR Movie/TV Show/Computer Animation...Well, that's all up to WotC to decide. Lots of legal issues too, I am sure. |
| tae'graciel01-19-06, 11:06 AM | There was a D&D cartoon in the late 70's it was really awsome, with a little character named the dungeon master and everything. A bunch of kids got zapped into D&D as diffrent classes traveling together (ranger, Palain, Wizard Ect) |
| Zsych01-19-06, 01:36 PM | I absolutely loved that cartoon. Of course i saw it in 1990, around the first time i played D&D. A movie would probably be too short. And I'm not sure LotR or Narnia would've been anywhere near as good without those expensive special effects and remote scenery. Most FR books don't have that kind of fan-following either... that people would just come and see the movie because it's based on some classic book. There are a huge number of ideas in FR though, and 10-15 episode storylines for different adventures could be a lot of fun with how much there is to work with. Wonder how much it costs to make cartoons, and how much WotC is willing to spend on advertisement of that kind. |

I'm still holding out hope we'll see a animation (drawn or computer) one, not necssiairly a TV show, but like a 2 part movie on Scifi or something that is REALMS and not Dungeons and Dragons in general. |

The fact that WotC made two movies (One straigh-to-TV), taking their chances on a random, unknown campaign setting, rather than the Fan-favorite Forgotten Realms makes it seem that a FR movie/cartoon/what have you is not in the works. |
| Berzerker_prime01-19-06, 09:22 PM | It makes no sense and yet it makes perfect sense... On the one hand, FR has a pre-established following with die-hard fans who would go and see it regardless of whatever. They would snap up merchandise like no tomorrow and with probably more fervor than ever before. And it would generate new interest in the game setting and D&D as a whole. From a marketing standpoint, it would be a no-brainer. On the other hand, FR is a setting shared between a great many writers, at this point. To set a movie in FR, you would have to make it noticeably FR by having characters and places familiar to the long time fan. Yet at the same time, whoever writes the script would have to be careful about what s/he included so as not to have any past writers say "hey! I created that! Why didn't I get credit for it!?" It's a big, sticky issue, really. To avoid it, WotC would have to go around to every single person who's ever written anything officially linked to FR and get them to sign off. I wouldn't want to be that lawyer. Sweet water to you! Berz. |
| Kuje3101-19-06, 09:27 PM | I think what the poster is talking about is this: There was a TV show in the works for FR. The company has since gone out of business and the rights to the show.... are somewhere. :) From what I heard about the show, from Ed, when I met him in 2004, I'm glad it fell through.... He mention something about dark elves and them being mostly naked..... |

Naked Dark Elves...Now, I think that would give us nerds/geeks/gamers a worse name than we already have... |

C'mon Kuje, you know the Dark Elves run naked as it is (ok, not the Underdark ones..)...darnet! But, it would be nice to see a serious, thought through, good Cartoon-Like show on say Cartoon Network or something, some where where it can get the true respect it needs and not just be a fab for two years *coughpokemoncough* |

| Lord Karsus01-20-06, 03:06 PM | -If anything, I'd like a comic book series. If anyone has ever read the comic version of Homeland, I am sure you'd agree. Star Wars has had successful comic series' (Republic, Tales, Empire). This proves that it can be done. Create a bunch of new characters, drop 'em in an interesting place and let the fun begin! |
