It would greatly help in my rather feeble attempts at employing accents during my games (accents that don't sound like Victorian English or Capt. Bleigh). |

I'm gradually compiling a list of Realmspeak -- portmanteau words and so on -- but have a long way to go, and it's made harder by the fact that editors have sometimes (but not consistently) replaced Ed's Realms terms with English near-equivalents. |

While phonetic transcription doesn't suit these audience, the usual pronunciation guide given in the sourcebook is sometimes misleading as well ... for non-native speakers that is. e.g., Deep Duerra (of DD) is given as DEEP DWAIR-uh or Eilistraee as EEL-iss-TRAY-yee, and only English speaker accepts and spots EE as a long "e". Obviously, for the Dutch or Germans the "e" is pronunced a bit differently and a "pronunciation guide" is usually understood to be "untainted" by sound changes and all, so anyone all over the world understands it. That is certainly not what these books intended to reflect, given the predominantly English speaking readership, nonetheless it should be noted down. |
