FR TV Series still go? [Archive] - Wizards Community

09-12-04, 12:37 AM I searched everywhere but after finding a few press releases in early '02 there seems to be nothing more on this.
Anyone know if the FR TV Series is still being worked on, cancelled, in production, anything? Or on that note, how about that animated Dark Sun?

Any info relating to this would be good I think.

It got turned down months ago. When I met Ed back in May, he said so. He also said so on Candlkeep (which is in my file) and it was also brought up at Gencon. :) So its a no go, and the company that was making it was disolved as well.

Even Peter Jackson's movies contain moments that sicken me. The same thing would happen to an FR representation.

Let FR live in your hearts and minds. Don't wish for a TV series or movie that would most likely drag FR characters and events through the mud.

An Eberron cartoon may not be better than an FR one (it'd be even, I think), but at least the Eberron folks wouldn't argue on the message boards about whether or not the events in cartoon were canon.

And I for one wouldn't mind if they stopped writing FR novels, either. Or at least let Ed Greenwood write them all and give him complete freedom :D

They care about in-game continuity.

They just don't beat the dead horse issues into the ground with the alarming regularity that the FR board does.

Ever taken part in the cosmology discussions here? It's eye-opening.

Also, name another msg board whose posters run off the novelists that write for the setting.

Eberron also has the luxury of already having continuity by virtue of their being only one sourcebook. Since Keith also does the Dragonshard fluff, he makes sure that it stays consistant with the ESB.

Problem solved.

The only use a FR cartoon would serve would be as yet another branch of an already frayed set of alleged canon.

Just another opportunity for board ruleslawyers to come running with red markers held tightly in their white-knuckled fists.

I was always under the impression that the series treatments were done but WoTC balked because the TV producers wanted to make some of the future episodes of the show consist of cornucopia of mindless, nearly-nekkid Drow fan service.

WoTC didn't want their IP shown such disrepect and subsequently torpedoed the deal.

If that's the case, then hurray for WoTC, as they've already dealt with the tragedy of a visual product too deeply rooted in disturbing amounts of camp.

Seriously I am really glad there not making a dnd/FR cartoon/crappy effects show. Such a thing would show extream disrespect to the many many gamers that keep the game alive.

I personally don't consider continuity arguments to be wrong. They may not be what you would do, or what I would do, but it's one of the main reasons for any group of gamers to come together besides gaming - to discuss their opinions on different aspects of the gaming world and how they impact other things in it, I think. :)

Back on topic of a moment :rolleyes: , you have to admit that the Dungeons and Dragons cartoon owned... Takhisis was scary man... :mymy:

10-02-04, 01:41 PM I've read stuff by CRPG designers that shows an extremely cavalier attitude towards both the spirit and the continuity of the Realms. Look at Baldur's Gate II's treatment of the Cowled Wizards, or the death of named NPCs in the Neverwinter Nights official campaign. The Realms is an afterthought in those games to the game and story at hand.

But sure, continuity arguments can be misguided, circular, tedious, etc.

As I've said before: the Lord of the Rings films are as authentic as they are because everyone involved, including the cast and crew, knew the books, because they're imbedded the culture as the Realms is not, and the same factor led to the studio giving Jackson so much artistic freedom. It would be a miracle if a Realms TV series got at all close to its real spirit.
