SammasterT 12-24-04, 12:32 PM	Hail! Many thanks for the seasonal greetings! I had almost forgotten that the Deutsche call "Chrsitmas" Weihnachten. All of the other Teutonic tribes have, since the earliest of times it would seem, called it Yule (Old English Geola, Old Norse Jol, etc). In fact, the All-Father of the elder pantheon bore as one of his names Jolnir. Not to mention he was one-eyed, a famous gift-giver, and an elf! Not that the term Weihnachten is at all inappropriate. The word weih for instance is very significant. It is cognate to the Old English weoh, and the Old Norse ve. It is a complimentary concept to that of "holiness" or "halig" in the elder tongues (from whence we get such wrods as holy, healthy, whole). It represented the reality of the divine, beyond all mortalthoughts and concepts. It was considered the root of holiness, as manifested in our native, homegrown, culture and beliefs ... our native relationship[ with the godly and their creation. So, anyway, before I go into an never ending ramble on this most holiest of the holy tides, this weoh-halig tide, let me just send my own good wishes and good will right back at you and yours. And indeed, good wishes and good will to all folk of all peoples! May you prosper in the new year!!

Kalendas Ianuarias (8th day before the First Day of January), as Natalis Solis invicti, literally the "Birth of the Undefeated Sun God". And they were saying that RPG folk are mad, bad and dangerous to know! :allalone: (Then again, those who know about the above may well be :D )
