| Slime Lord10-01-05, 05:18 PM | I just came up with a great idea - Why doesn't everyone post links to (legal) downloadable music? Then, you can use it for your Meet-Up's and go from there! I have nothing to share at this moment, but I think this is a sticky-worthy idea personally. |
| Ulfr10-02-05, 02:04 AM | one that I love is the lineage 2 music. The composer seems to pull in alot from the soundtracks from spider man, xmen and lord of the rings. You can pick out little bits of the music that is pulled straight from the sound tracks. But the music posted is completely free, just rightclick and save target as to have it on your comp. http://www.lineage2.com/pds/pds_music.html there are about 40 songs. My suggestion for music- look for Jeremy Soule stuff, Michael Hoenig, anything from the Diablo Soundtracks, midnight syndicate, and of course howard shore. If you can get the music for BG1&2, that will supply you with alot of music. I'm not going to say I did anything to get it or where I got the music but I "found" it and "got" it over a month long period. It sums up to about 63 songs maxxing out over an 87 minute period. That includes music from the taverns like the jovial juggler and stuff. The Icewind Dale sound track comes in the collectors version of IWD1. Michael Hoenigs stuff for BG comes with the collectors edition fo BG1, though I'm not sure about 2. Diablo stuff I got from a friend, pretty good stuff. Midnight Syndicate made a cd specifically for D&D. And Howard shore did all the lord of the rings music. If you can find stuff from games, you are given a mass of good stuff. They tend to be much longer or to a point where they could be repeated. If you want to search for movie soundtracks then the 13th warrior has a good soundtrack. So does willow for less fighting adventures.. If you are into it, Legend of Zelda has some cute-sy yet good stuff. As always theres those of you that run oriental styled campagins. Crouching tiger hidden dragon, hero, and all those crazy flying-through-the-trees movies have good stuff. Neverwinter Nights has really good music but I have no idea how to get that stuff. I have no idea how ot play the BMU files, but I'm sure theres a way to do it out there. I find that playing FR related games helps to set a mood you never knew. Such as athlakta in BG2- it's a more greek/Mediterranean feel, so Mediterranean music works really well there. Tribal music works better for the north in Icewind Dale, or anything with percussion and lots of brass. Avoid the stringed instruments. etc. etc. etc. Hope that could help. |
| warlockco10-02-05, 02:53 AM | Music from the Star Wars movies and from Final Fantasy 7 make some good dramatic pieces. |
| Asadeseth10-05-05, 09:50 PM | i recoment the Conan soundtracks as well as the Dune (the original movie) soundtracks. Both are very good, ans set the mood for D&D games well. |
| Sword of Omens10-06-05, 09:43 PM | Loreena McKennitt has several albums featuring some very Medieval sounding music with authentic Medieval instruments. I highly recommend her "The Mask and the Mirror" album and "The Visit." Also, I really liked the music from "Doom" . . . anyone know where I can find it? |
| WagnerSika10-07-05, 06:36 AM | If you like heavier music then Manowar, Luca Turilli and Rhapsody are great game music. Heroic and over the top. As to the orginal idea of the post of posting links to free music, there are lots of free music sites out there, but i haven't found one with only gaming suitable music. It all depends really what you like. I listen to the afrometioned heroic metal during battles and such and german and irish drinking songs in the taverns etc. |
| Ziatyn Phoenixwolf10-07-05, 10:29 PM | Black Aria by Glen Danzig is good. |
| Slime Lord10-08-05, 08:46 AM | I wanted to say that Guildwars, the great little game, has some really good music. I know if you buy the expansion, you get the music on a CD. I know that they have a download for like a few songs for one of their spots "Sorrows Furance", and you can also buy their newest expansion "Guild Wars Battle Pak 1". It too has new songs for areas in general :) |
| Darth_Azalin10-08-05, 09:54 AM | I actually don't believe there is anywhere you can download anything (commerical - music, books, etc) for free (legal-wise) Also TSR did a whole load of Audio CD Gaming stuff Red Steel - Savage baronies - Forgotten Realms Mystra - Karameikos (sp) Glantri A Night of a Vampire Hall of Heroes Mark of Amber I can't tell you if these are any good since they are still shrinked wrapped. midnight syndicate is great.. Also if you own any games like Diablo, Diablo II, Diablo II:LOD you should be able to take the audio files and move/copy them to another file for your use to game with. |

Well check out http://www.mp3lizard.com Granted I don't know if any of these bands have published their stuff anywhere else... They are more like demos. |
| Darrian10-10-05, 07:22 AM | I like music from Lord of the Rings and Metallica. Metallica is best for combat, the speed of the music tends to increase the players pace of play. Fast combat is good combat. Darrian |
| kaeso10-10-05, 10:48 AM | I haven't bought anything yet, but I'm thinking the 3 LotR's soundtracks, and the FF VII soundtrack (haha I'll play the level up music when they gain a level- it will be HILARIOUS!) |
| Dialacton2110-10-05, 11:38 AM | I think the Cure and Joy Division sometimes make good back ground music, also Siouxie Sioux and the Banshees for weird psychedelic moments. Eagles of Death Metal for city music, Old Crow Medicine Show for hick towns, Skatalites and other ska for taverns, and AC/DC for epic fights. Besides Metallica and movie soundtracks suck, I prefer to make my own playlists. |
| kaeso10-10-05, 01:51 PM | when you use music, do you set certain songs to just keep playing during certain situations? I mean, if the PC's are in a town just walking along, I dont want climactic music... it should be calmer to fit the mood. Then, when they enter a dungeon, the music gets creepier and more suspensful until they get to combat music in combat... anyone tried this, or do you just let it play? |

Then you should listen to Norah Jones while walking through friendly villages and towns ;) LOL! |
| bobsan10-10-05, 05:42 PM | I've always been looking for a way to merge two music files into one. the music from Neverwinter nights is very appropriate. I've fired up two different players to play both the tavern music as well as the ambient background tavern talk once. Worked great but a pain in the arse to pull off. |
| Doc Filth10-10-05, 07:56 PM | Whenever possible, I like to use Brian Eno. |

I have done this but now my computer is nowhere near the play area so I can't quickly change playlists. I found it cool, but somewhat distracting from GMing. The best way could be to make one of the players responsible for background music. But choose one who does not start playing solitaire on the computer while gaming. ;) |
| Gray Richardson10-12-05, 06:56 PM | You should check out Radio Rivendell. It is a streaming internet radio station that plays only Fantasy music. You could put it on in the background while you play or check out their library for lists of cool soundtracks and albums for ideas on what to add to your own collection. http://www.radiorivendell.com/ |

How interesting indeed. I must book mark this one for my own personal enjoyment, since I don't get to RP or anything...*Sniff* |
