Hej folks,

I would like how much it cost to get some some specific information.

In the Gater Information Skill is written it takes some hours and some gold pieces.

But I mean the more classical way:
"Hey barkeeper, we need some information about..."

I have a campgain in the High North and soon we will reach Sundabar. Now the players now that the followers of Bane have to do something with the ongoing events.
Thus my question how much would it cost to get more specific information? Do they have to hire something like a detective and how much would he take for his job?
Or can they talk to someone in the backroom and what does he want for the information?

Greetings, your Crazy DM.

Sometimes I let my players determine that. If an npc is experiencing amnesia on a regular basis and just can't seem to remember anything regarding the questions put to him, and my players just don't seem to be catching on I'll have them roll a sense motive. When they realize the npc is hinting at making some coin from the deal I'll have them start throwing money down. When I think its enough the npc starts talking.
I consider having a conversation with an npc in an tavern, shop or whatever taking 10 on the gather info skill.

The answer to this is easy. Information is worth exactly what your PCs are willing to pay for it (Or slightly more.).

Chances are that anyone that gives them info about Bane's followers is also going to tell Bane's followers that someone is looking for them. The PCs have to be clever and someone can always try to throw them off the track. The gold that is referenced could represent getting someone drunk (paying for their drinks) or just greasing a palm--it doesn't really matter.

What you need to determine is, who knows the information and how hard is it to get it out of them. That's going to set the DC of the GI check. Chances are for Bane's church in the north, it's going to be high (like DC 25) unless the characters have some inside info.

If you roleplay it, it will be extremely difficult on the players if they aren't mentally up to the challenge. However for game mechanics, set the DC and give them a +2 bonus if they spend X gold, +2 bonus if they have knowledge (religion) of 5 or more ranks, and +2 if they know someone by name that is associated with the church. Feel free to change those up a bit, but those are ones I'd use.
