12-10-03, 07:30 PM Could anyone give me any updated information on Gondegal, the infamous bandit king of Cormyr? I cannot find much info on him anywhere, so any pointers towards the right sources would be welcomed. Also if anyone has used him in there campaigns then I would be interested to know how.

12-10-03, 08:22 PM According to the first Ravenloft boxed set, he's there now. I don't know if any subsequent publications said anything more about him.

Basically, he fled after the final battle in Cormyr, wound up in some fog, and when it lifted, he was in Falkovnia, one of Ravenloft's domains.

12-10-03, 09:35 PM He got a pretty extensive writeup in a Ravenloft NPC book, I think it was Champions of the Mist. He ended up founding some form of knighthood or good organization to fight against the evil of Ravenloft.

12-11-03, 04:44 PM There was also another mention of him somewhere....I wish I could recall where. It was a sighting of him on a ship. Apperantly he was on a boat that was attacked by....pirates? or Cormyrian freesails? Someone during the battle recognized him. To escape, he jumped overboard. He or his body was never found again.

Once again, I can't recall what suplement that was in.

12-11-03, 06:58 PM I was wondering if Gondegal was an evil man. The reason I ask is that I am starting a new campaign soon, and I intend to base it in Cormyr. With the recent events that have occured, I thought it would be an ideal time for Gondegal to return and try to take the kingdom again. I thought he could gather the forces of the orcs hiding in the surrounding forests and perhaps gain help from the Zhentarim in taking the land in exchange for letting the Zhentarim into Cormyr when he has succeeded. What does anyone think about this?

12-11-03, 07:31 PM The Ravenloft boxed set listed him as CN, and a 20th level fighter. Furthermore, someone else said that in a later Ravenloft source, he started a knighthood to fight the evil there...

These are not the actions of an evil man.

These are also not the actions of someone in the Realms. Unless some source I'm unaware of has him listed as doing the near-impossible and escaping from the Demiplane of Dread, then he's still in Ravenloft.

I'd create my own evil baddie for a plot like this. Perhaps one of the disgraced noblemen would be a good candidate -- the gods know they've got reasons to feel ill will towards the Crown.

And Azoun, like many Obarskyrs, had an eye for the ladies. 'Tis well-known he's left many illegitimate children behind. Mayhaps one of those could be the one causing trouble?

12-11-03, 07:56 PM Since he uses humanoids and goblin-kind for his forces, the warlord isn't good. I say it is up to you. Personally, I don't think that Gondegal would get the Zhentarium involved, but maybe many years with no throne changes his mind...

12-11-03, 08:22 PM Gondegal wasn't so much evil as misguided from what I remember. I think once he found himself in Ravenloft he started thinking about what he'd done in trying to overthrow Azoun and realized the mistakes that he'd made.
Anybody here a Ravenloft 3E guru? I don't know if him or his organization has been detailed yet, but I know that they just came out with a sourcebook of good characters for Ravenloft, so you might have some luck finding him there (though since the liscense for Ravenloft has been sold to White Wolf, they are avoiding previous TSR-world/character mentions like the plague, which is why they wrote alot of characters out of Ravenloft).

12-11-03, 08:35 PM I had actually considered using one of the disgraced noble families at first. Seeing as it doesn't seem to fit in with what you have told me of Gondegal I think I'll go with that option instead and build on it from there. I still like the idea of the Zhents getting involved, as I'm sure they would be looking for a way into Cormyr in it's current state of unrest. The Zhents and the Orcs banding together with the mystery disgraced nobleman/woman could be quite a large problem for Alusair to deal with. Can't quite remember which families were thrown out, so I'll have to get my Cormyr trilogy out and start reading again!

12-11-03, 11:06 PM Gondegal after the debacle when he tried to forge his own empire in 1352 DR in (Dalereckoning). Gondegal had taken Arabel and pland to buit his empire. After the armies of Cormyr and Sembia attacked his forces Gondegal ran away only to be taken by the Mist.

He found himself in Ravenloft Back then he was still Chaotic Neutral, and he was in the Domain Of Falkovia. At First Gondegal liked what he saw in the Domain. Falkovia is a purely Militaristic Country.

But Soon Gondegal felt, it was too evil and represive for his own tastes. He decided to carve himself a part of Falkovia and start his own empire a new. Unfortunately Drakov Learned of the plot and the new empire was crushed before it even got of the ground.

Gondegal once again feld while his co-conspirators where capured and killed. Gondegal fled to Darkon, where he was attacked by 3 vampires, after being severly level drained , Gondegal was rescued by a female (who was a member of the Knights of the Shadows), Gondegal repented and started to train.

In a few years he regained his lost strengh and became the new leader of the Knights of the Shadows. He returned to Falkovia where he now uses defensive hit and Run Campaigns to destablise Drakov. Now Gondegal is seen as the people's Champion in Falkovia.

Gondegal is now a Chaotic Good Lv 15 avenger with the Knight of the Shadow kit 2nd

Gondegal was most recently detailed in Ravenloft Gazetteer Volume II, for 3E.

12-12-03, 02:07 AM Glad to hear they kept him... he was one of the more intruiging NPCs in Ravenloft (one of the few who instead of embracing their darkness, rose up to fight against it). If you really wanted, you could have Gondegal escape the Mists and return to Faerun in your campaign. If you want to make it really wild, have the now-reformed Gondegal ally with Alusair (have your characters meet with him incognito, then when they finally get to meet with Alusair he reveals, to the shock of many, who he is, and offers to help Alusair in an effort to make amends). It would be a good role-playing experience for your characters to try to talk Alusair out of taking Gondegal's head on the spot ;)

12-12-03, 04:01 PM I say that if you want to use Gondegal, then go ahead and use him! In fact, he might be trying to use the Zhentarium for his own ends. Wether he does this or not could be up in the air. In fact, it could lend to some good role playing options. There could be a schism in the forces of Gondegal between Zhents and his own troops.

Personally, I like Gondegal. You can always ignore Ravenloft if it fits your game.

12-12-03, 05:25 PM Been thinking about this overnight. I may use the disgraced noble families as the main antagonists who are in cohorst with the Zhents and using the Orcs, and perhaps bring Gondegal in as a surprise hero. Having realised his wrongdoing, he decides to atone by helping defend Cormyr. Could be fun if he helps the PCs and they then have to defend him in front of Alusair and the nobles. I've never used the Forgotten Realms/Ravenlfot connection as I have always preferred to keep Ravenloft seperate, so in my campaign I'll just say he has been in hiding for a long time thinking about his actions and his future.

12-12-03, 06:05 PM Just keep in mind that that his rebellion was 20 years ago, in current time. It happened in 1352. The Lost King's fighting days may be behind him... Though, to be honest, I don't recall any references to his age.
