Hi! I'm new to this forum and I wonder if someone could help me with some background for an adventure I'm preparing?

I was thinking of using "Anvil of Time" from Dungeon Magazine (don't remember which, #86 I think), though it's written for Dragonlance. In the adventure the PCs travel back in time to two different ages and meet mythic NPCs of the past. I thought it would give more "flesh" to our campaign, since the players are quite new to FR.

Well, first (in the original) they meet the knight Soth and Fistandtilus (3rd age), then Huma and his companion Magius (2nd age). I'm looking for appropiate NPCs in the history of FR, but I just can't find any that fit.

Anyone who can help me? Pretty please?

Nice to see another newbeginner to this board as well.

i have some suggestions for a substitute for fistandilantus (?):

Sammaster: founder of cult of the dragon, Ex-chosen of Mystra
information about him can be found here: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/files/2/fr_downloads/tsr9547.zip

Larloch: ancient wizard from netheril, he is in Lod, i think he is more suitable, as he was alive before a similar great catastrophic event (the fall of Netheril).

As for Lord Soth, i can't really recall any famous blackguard types except for one, Bane.
Bane himself was once mortal, and his own mortal past is largely unknown except for details about events preceeding his ascendance (sp?). i think he is a good choice and would be a great surprise for the players when they meet him.
and expanding on that you could perhaps have Myrkul as a substitude for fistandilantus.

as for the other two i haven't got the slightest clue.

Sammaster is nothing: Karsus would do the trick, the uber-wizard of them all (before he killed off most of the Netheril civilization, including himself)!

Anything in Netheril would be a sight.

Larloch in human form is a good one (well, evil...).

Elminster as a child (maybe even a woman)?

Halaster the Mad Mage of Undermountain prior to descending into same...

If they are elf-friends, then seeing the creation of the Mythals would be cool.

Unfortunately they are all wizards. There aren't that many 'heroic' characters known Realms-wide of old. Try checking the time-line for obscure details...

Hope I was of any help.

You may be intrested in the Archane age sets (Netheril Empire of magic, Cormanther, How the Mighty are Fallen and The fall of Myth Drannor) if you dont already have them available for free

Sure 2ed, but price is right.

Thank you all! All information has been very valuable. I especially liked the idea with using Bane for Lord Soth.

As said, there's no problem finding suitable wizards. I have thought of both Halastar and Karsus myself. I will look closer on all your suggestions.

Fighters and paladins is harder to find. I'll probably make some up just using the stats in the module and place them in a suitable period in FRs history.

Once again, thanks!

Rauthauvyr the Raven. Warrior-general, tactical genius, visionary, founder of Sembia.

Uthgar, founder of the Uthgardt Tribes, now a demigod.

Feldrin Bloodfeathers, the First King of Damara (was probably a paladin).

Imphras, War-Captain of Impiltur (also likely a paladin).

You could also use Azuth which was the first magister fought and defeated the demigod Savras. If you read the Elminster: making of a mage, you could even show pc's elminster as a woman called Elmara. Also, seven sisters are not so young, almost 700-800 years old they are. Consider using them :) :)

If you are looking for an interesting paladin from the past, you might consider Torm. Before he became a god he was a great knight that was devoted to serving his king. Also, since the kingdom is now lost in history, you might be able to do some interesting things there.
