Then Mystryl the crazy decides that she can't handle Karsus having control of the Weave even temporarily and commits suicide, forever destroying magic(to the best of her knowledge), but as it happened(or so Ed says), there was a blabbering lunatic, slobbering all over herself, who was accidentally hit by the remaining spark of Mystryl's divinity and turned into Mystra. Who proceeded to strip humanity as a whole of the chance to achieve the greatest heights of power ever again. Thereby completely destroying the people that Karsus had sought to protect(since their mythallars stopped working in the Weave... at the time). (in all likelihood of course, Ed meant to imply no such thing, when he explained the somewhat ridiculous circumstances of Mystra's birth. But couple the latter day temporary effect, Karsus Avatar, with Mystryl not even knowing that magic would be saved in the form of Mystra, since she personally had no backups at all.... and things start looking rather bad for the goddesses of magic :))
