I'm very curious...

Do the people of Faerun dye their hair?

I'm thinking it would be very cool to have blonde hair with black streaks in it IF it is practiced in Faerun.

I cant see why not. I'm sure there are all sorts of natural dyes and the such, from trees, plants, etc. I'm sure the wild subraces would do it quite a bit.

And if you're a spellcaster, there are several spells that can easily do the trick.

Worshippers of Shar do indeed dye their hair black (or use spells to change it black) during important ceremonies and whatnot.

Eilistraee's clergy do as well to make it silvery. :)

Hair dyes do exist in the FR

In the Novel Elfsong one of the characters visits an Inn in Waterdeep where the waitress dress up as Drow and they dye there hair white

You speak of the Crawling Spider. 'Tis in the Castle Ward, and is described on pages 21-2 of Volo's Guide to Waterdeep.

Long ago, there was a thread that talked about a pic of Alustriel. In this pic, she was depicted with brown hair. The thread-starter was wondering if she died her hair... So I came up with the bit below:

Okay, I'll admit it: it's me. I've been selling Wooly Rupert's Wondrous Hair Dye in the Realms for many years now. Ten gold for a bottle, ten doses to a bottle. A single dose of Wooly Rupert's Wondrous Hair Dye will cover the head of a medium-sized humanoid, and can be applied in minutes, but lasts for one full month (thirty days). During that time, the wearer can mentally control the color and style of their hair, changing either by act of will, once a day. The style and color choice will remain until the wearer decides to change either, or until the dose wears off.

A side effect is that all body hair (eyebrows, etc) is affected by Wooly Rupert's Wondrous Hair Dye, even though it's usually only applied to the head.

Wooly Rupert's Wondrous Hair Dye is currently available in larger cities of the Realms, and from any outlet of Aurora's Whole Realms Catalog.

Disclaimer: Wooly Rupert is not a Thayvian, and his products are not in anyway connected to that nation or its people.

Someone else added a bit more (I can't remember who, or I'd credit them):

Wooly Rupert's Wondrous Hair Dye: Prerequisite: Brew Potion, Disguise self. Minimum Caster Level 5

Actually, those are wigs. ;)

But I think Waterdeep and other cosmopolitan sites with people who like the latest trends/fashion is a sure place to find hair dye. I´ve been using hair dye in my FR campaigns since the Grey Box. Not only natural dyes, but also chemical, or magical, as mentioned.

I'm not sure how to make it, but you can have Hydrogen Peroxide as say an alchimal substance. It has been used for it's hair bleaching ability. (Note, do not try this at home as it's actually hell on your hair and better results can be had with actual dye)

Most temples of Sune you can grab a full make over (including a hair dye) and other possible purchases =)

Go ahead and use the name Wooly Rupert if you wish -- it's from the Giant Space Hamster entry of the second Spelljammer appendix to the Monstrous Compendium. :)

I would like to hear your ideas, though. The original intent, when I first typed it up months ago, was to just be funny. But then I found that I liked the idea, and so I myself may use it at some future time. :D

*grins* No, tinker gnomes had nothing to do with this stuff. I just happen to like using the name Wooly Rupert. 'Tis obscure enough that not many others would think of using it, and yet every now and again, someone who recognizes the name does pop up... :D
