Harper's series of novels [Archive] - Wizards Community

05-26-07, 02:34 AM I have been wondering if there are any particular books in the series that would be recommended, I don't know if I should try to get all of the series, or just certain select books of the series (besides the songs and swords) I was just wondering which are worth reading, all? some?

I did like the Song and Swords books, plus, I particularly enjoyed the Caledan Caldorien novels, Curse of the Shadowmage and Crypt of the Shadowking, I believe. Stormlight, even though it was written by Ed Greenwood, was good too.

OK. There was one that depicted a female ranger (I think) helping a remote gnome village against gnolls that I found enjoyable in an non-realms altering kind of way.

I gave up after about 20 pages because Mr. Ciernan seemed not to know how to properly use direct speech (as opposed to reported speech). Among other things I cannot quite remember.

05-30-07, 09:17 AM l too enjoyed The Night Parade and its dark plot. This novel really does stand alone in its pacing and tone. I don't think I've read another Realms novel like it. Definitely check it out.

Soldiers of Ice :)

I didn't find the series as awhole particularly memorable, with the exception of Elaine Cunningham's entries, but that was one of the better ones.

Thats it. Thanks. I found that one a little offbeat in a charming way. I did like the "shadow" books with Caldorien in it.

06-25-07, 11:16 AM one that i thought was good was Red Magic by Jean Rabe. a druid versus a zulkir of thay. the druid even alliies wit szzas (spelling) tam. pretty cool. centaur fighter as a lead character as well.

I don't think you'll find many anywhere on here to support that particular novel. I for one was deeply pained by reading it, and not just by the low literary quality it offered on the whole.
