Hi to everyone!

I'm new here and wanted to let you all know that I'm here.

After this little presentation, I wanted to ask a little question:

What does it happens when a Psichyc weapon is imbued with magic powers?

I think the object should collapse not capable of handling too much and diverse power, what do you all think?

Don't forget that standard psionics IS just magic from the users mind. Its not really any different from a mages spell or a clerics miracle.

That said combining psionics and arcane magics into a single weapon is just a background story. If it sounds cool just do it.

Secondly the magic item creations systems from the Psi Handbook and the DMG are identical (just with special abilities for psychics). Just pick and choose those abilities you want, add up the pluses like you do normally, and have at it.

While Cthulhu's way is very logical, I treat things diffrently.

Psionics are *not* magic (though they do draw on the Weave), and they cannot be combined as per Cthulhu's method.

Let's say I have a +1 Flaming (magical, obviously) Greataxe.
I have done a great favor to a psion, and as a reward, he enhances my axe.
He turns it into a +1 Flaming (magicak) +1 Bodyfeeding (psi) Greataxe.

It is handled as if the weapon is two different weapons, one for each enhancemet type.

The bonus to the attack\damage is the higher.

While that might work its going to cause game balance problems.

Consider that I want to make a magical/psionic sword of +5 (whatever combo of abilities you want) in each category.

Your now paying 50,000 gps for the magic, and another 50,000 for the psionics. 100,000 gps in total.

Now this is very similar to a purely magical blade of +1 with 9 levels of special abilities. The cost for a +10 item like this is 200,000 gold pieces.

By dividing the categories like Savras suggested you just doubled the number of special abilities available at one half the price.

For purposes of magic/psionic creation I would treat them as one for pricing and power level.

According to the FRCS your supposed to use the normal psionic rules in the Psihandbook, not the "psionics are different" variant.

Normal psionics is just another form of magic.

But I would also like to point out that the FRCS never specifically states that psionics is linked to the Weave. Thats a popular assumption, but its not fact. So your better off just using the way psionics is presented in its own book as a magic of the mind and will, not an external source like the Weave.

Cute poem by the way!

Ah, Cthulhu, it will not be overpowering, because I will stay on the lookout.

True, a rather crappy solution, but I have found it to work.
And it does a better job, in my opinion, in keeping the flavour.

I have already given (several times) my arguments about why Psi uses the Weave, and I believe it to be so.
While not canon, it is my belief and all my posts must be read with that in mind.

I also objet to the "Psi is magic"- psionics are not magic.

They are "magic" to clueless commoners, but not per se.
There are two kinds of magic- Arcane (the Art) and the Divine (the Power).

The Psionics (the Invisible Art) stand apart, yet interact with these two kinds of magic.

P.S.: Thanks!
It was my welcome poem, but as there is now only one Welcome thread, and I posted it there, I almost never get to use it.

Can't argue with success! If it works for you than 'nuff said.

Just for the record, when I say "magic", what I really mean is "supernatural...powers that work beyond the boundaries of natural law". By that definition ALL powers available in FR are magic.

I am fully in the trench of "psionics is not Weave magic because it has no characterics of Weave laws of magic use". But I think you already knew that! :D

Aye, I did.

I refer you once more to the fluff in the MoF about Dispell and to the fact that it dispells Psi.

Also, at the end of the ToT it was changed so Psi uses the Weave(in a novel, but it was done).

Other than that, it works because I never used it... alas, it seems like yours is better ruleswise... I think I might just disallow it all-together...

Dispels have ALWAYS cancelled psionics...just like Negates cancel arcane or divine powers. Nothing new there.

Call me predjudiced but novels are second rate and unreliable resources. They exist to push a particular authors individual story, not Forgotten Realms as a game setting for my use. I have very little use for them.

Errr... I sopke of thwe fluff- the Dispell Magic works by "soothing" and unknoting the Weave (the "knots" are the spells).

So, if it works on psi...

Not the way it works. Dispels work by negating the energies the Weaves channel. They don't attack the Weave itself.

Otherwise Shadow Dispels and Weave Dispels could not effect the others magics (they originate from different weaves).

So they can interface with psionics in the normal matter.

I would quote, but I am tired.

I think it in a different way, as you said before in novels in FR such as R.A. Salvatore's ones, psionics is a different thing than magic, so psionics being mantained their powers in the Time of Troubles, so I think Psionics don't call for the Weave. For this reason can a single object hold both power? I think not 'cause since I use the rule Psionics are different, it would be nearly impossible to have both powers in a single object.

However it states clearly in the PSI HB that PSI Power comes from the Mind and are internal powers.

why all the PSi is/isn't magic mumbo jumbo? give the guy an answer. The PSi book lists powers at levels equivalent to those of normal magic items (by listing +bonuses), so there shouldn't be any troubles with combining the powers. Personally I have made Psion/Sorc and Psion/Wiz and Psion/Cleric itemcrafter characters before and i have neither seen nor had any problems with mixing the abilities. I think that they give more flavor to the items, especially if the item is intelligent. DnD and the Realms are about possibilties, so WHY NOT?! I say! Personally i have made some pretty nifty items and none of them have been overpowered thus far. Just use the powers from bohtlists like they were on one list and it should be OK, maybe even cool. Hey, and if you come up with some interesting ones, let me know, I'm always on the lookout for new items and new ideas!:D

I think it would be cool to have a magic gem, the more powerful then better, then make it your psicrystal. Now you have a magic gem that is your buddy.:D

Just be careful what personality you give it.

If you speak of the Attune Gem feat, and want to see it developed, go to the Gem Magus (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=86444), a PrC specializing in Gem Magic.
