| tackleberry09-07-05, 06:26 AM | Hi all I am looking to involve one of the PCs (12th level cleric of Helm and an absolute fantastic role player) in the Helmite Crusades taking place in Maztica. My plan is for him to uncover some nastiness within the church so he can get involved and I thought the Crusades are an ideal plot device to be using for this story. Two seeds are already in place that could eventually involve the pc in the crusade if plotted out correctly: sorry about the length but here is some background info regarding the character and the seeds planted so far: 1. The PC - Kaalen, was sent to The Temple of Helm in Silverymoon at a very young age. His father was always very stern and the schooling of the pc at Silverymoon was mainly the idea of his step mother (see below for her reasons for sending him away thus). The pcs father - a very high ranking cleric within the Helmite church in Waterdeep (not detailed in CoS :)) - is married to a rather bewitching lady named Astril who has already won over many of Waterdeeps socialites and is very popular among the nobles of Waterdeep - the life and soul of the party and a bit of an enigma, why would such a socail butterfly be married to the iron backed stuffy high priest of helm? Astril is not Kaalens birth mother - she died in an 'accident' shortly after he was born. Astril and the PCs father then had a child together who is now approaching her 16th birthday. Kaalen didnt even know she existed until recently! The truth is that Astril is infact a succubus hidden by powerful magics provided by her demonic master. (the pcs half sister - actually a half succubus and destined to be a part of the downfall of her father) Her plan is to create waves within the church of Helm by causing the Cleric to eventually renounce his faith through her dark methods with the help of their daughter! Obviously her plan was created many years before Kaalen was born. Could Kaalens father be involved in the crusades as a result of his corrupted judgement? 2. Over the last few game months, he has been swapping letters with his father after meeting Astril again in Silverymoon. Kaalens father seems to be changing. Where once his father was stern and strict with no sense of humour at all, he is now 'lightning up' a bit and seems to be rather disinterested in Kaalens on going quests and his spreading of the word of Helm. Kaalen is just starting to notice the subtle changes in his father letters - soon the letters will stop all together and this may be his cue to go to Waterdeep. 3. Kaalen has been having nightmares lately of burning villages in a foreign country and the like and the slaughter of innocents he is unable to protect. Failure to perform his duty is the only thing that Kaalen seems to fear. I would love to tie Astrils machionations in with the Crusades. one thing that bothers me about this plot - though i am rather proud of it - is how would Helm react when he starts detecting that one of his high priests is becoming slack in his duty thanks to his wifes activities and influence. (if he hasnt already - maybe this is why Kaalen is getting visions) If any one has any ideas or considerations, they would be greatly appreciated. also if you know where to find some decent source material on what the helmite church is up to in maztica and how Helm himself is actually feeling about all of it, then that too would be helpful. Have a great day :) |

After some time protecting some Maztecans from the cult of Zaltec (having to overcome distrust of Helm from some locals), he returns to Silverymoon, perhaps with a convert. Helm would most likely charge this character to take over for his father. The father would loose spells, (unless he takes a feat from LEoF). Helm would most likely directly intervene, but it would be up to character to discover the reason for his father's change. |
