| arrianna03-30-05, 01:31 PM | My Pcs are going to Thay in their next session to try and defeat a demi lich that has taken control of one of the red wizards causing detriment to the rest of the world. They've been working at getting here for more than a year and this will probably end up being the end-all conclusion of the current campaign as it's plot is designed (if they are sucessful) I have generated many BBEG's that they will encounter in Thay. My problem is timing and organization. How should these guys fit together? What should I make the politics between them like? Who is an underling of who? The Pc's average 13th level and there are 8 of them. BBEG prime: demilich from another crystal sphere (obviously, he's in charge) His motivation is an attempt the ascend to god-hood. He wants to distract the powers that be by causing other problems so he can get to the Valley of the Gods unexposed. Seconday: Red Wizard lich that the demi lich has dominated. The demi-lich has him keeping magic items out of the rest of the worlds hands through powerful circle magic that is causing magic to mess up everywhere. Here's where it gets muddy: I have another Red Wizard lvl 14 in cahoots somehow. She's a necromancer and has control of 2 9th level vampires and 2 11th level juju zombies. She's the first BBEG the PC's ever met back when they were only lvl 3 I have a Blackguard lvl 14 and a rogue lvl 14 that were former members of the PC's party. I have a company of blooded orcs with a lvl 10 captain, 2 lvl 9 leuitenants, and 50 lvl 1 soldiers I have a company of Thayan Knights a lvl 14 captain, 3 lvl 11 leuitenants and 17 lvl 5 soldiers I have a company of Centuar Thayan slavers, 3 lvl 14 I have a flock of darkenbeasts How can I get the Pc's to encounter them all without encountering them all at the same time, while maintining the design of them all being in cahoots with the demilich? I don't want some of the smaller companies to be exterminated like chumps, but I'm also not looking for a TPK. The Pc's plan right now is to sneak into Thay, clandestinely infiltrate the lair of the demilich and put his phylactery in a bag of holding whose extradimensional space is linked to the plane of positive energy, breaking the domination effect, and thereby breaking the "chain of command". Any suggestions would be very appreciated. We play on Friday night. |
| Kuje3103-30-05, 02:21 PM | Maybe map a base of operations where the BBEG and the cohorts are staying? That way the PC's can meet them all while keeping up the act that the BBEG is connected to all of the others..... |
| Whistledown03-30-05, 02:23 PM | You do realize that in the FR canon Thay is ruled by Ssaz Tam (sp?) who is a lich of such immense power that it's very unlikely he would be dominated? :plotting: But no matter. I would have the characters go in legitimetly as traders. They could get the permits from a local enclave before they go. Once in Thay, you could have their cover get blown by some or one of you BBEG's. After the resulting fight, the characters would have to go "underground." There's your first fight. The people helping them could be rebels or, perhaps better, that could be a rival faction of Thayan wizards. They agree to help the players IF the players help them by killing another one of your BBEGs. After that they could help your characters infilitrate to face the super BBEG. W |

Yeah, Sazz Tam plays a role here, but he's not directly involved with the PC's. He's actually waiting to see what happens to the RW so as to possible promote her if she deals well with the multitude of threats. |

A Demilich is an Epic template with obsurbly overpowered special qualities, and is one of the only beings to possess the precedent-breaking ability to irrevocably kill a character----forever. Unless by the term "demilich" you are perhaps refering to some other third-party monster or homebrew lich variant, then I would suggest not giving the BBEG an epic template until the PC's are at least 22-25th level. |

I thought of that, and they are going to progress several levels before they get to him. I have also had some NPCs give them some good advice and a few items to help them. They know what they are up against, and are not going in blind. |
