Me and my friends just recently decided to start playing DnD and we decided to start out with "the sunless citadel" module. Only problem is is that it was designed for 4 PC and unfortionatly there's only 3 of us. One druid, one sorceror and me the fighter. I talked to my buddy who is gunna be the DM and apparently the place is chock full of pit traps and low and behold we are without a rogue. What would be the best way to "balance" out the module for us? Remove the traps or atleast some of them? Or perhaps I could become a rogue, but then we are without a fighter. Any familiars that can find and disarm traps out there?

Always a bit tough for beginners but ... there's always a chance that one of you have two characters, one of which will be the rogue then. On the other hand ... speaking strictly gameswise ... you could start as a rogue (gaining loads of skillpoints at level 1 and switch levels between rogue and fighter now and then. With skills and skillpoints in mind, 3E/3RE is very much a game of multiclassing (for the greatest "roleplaying" - fun).

So there're two options and perhaps you can agree upon switching players per session with this rogue NPC ... just to get a feeling for the game and its classes.

You could also suggest to your DM the option of starting the party out at second lvl.

While this might make things a bit easier at the begining (i've played the citidel and it's a good mod), this would allow multi-classing to cover all the bases.

Alternitively...the DM could have an NPC accompany you..I would suggest this NPC being a fighter.

Anyway, good luck with the Sunless Citidel and don't let the pits get you down... yuck yuck.

Dirk stole my idea. Have the DM make an NPC fighter. Better to have the NPC be a fighter than the rogue, so the DM won't have to worry about doing checks for things he knows are there and ruining the suprise of traps and such.

the DM fighter NPC sounds like a good idea, we can go with that. But i had my heart set on being a heartless mercenery with a Gigantic greatsword of platnium which I used to slice and dice anyhting that I decided I wanted to die. Looks like its the death from the shadows, cocky, never fight the fair fight rogue for me.
