Help with a FR Campaign [Archive] - Wizards Community

11-19-07, 09:11 PM I have been writing a few ideas for the campaign when I get them. Scribble down a cool NPC idea and stuff like that. I finally set down last night and wrote the background and a basic outline of where I would like it to go.(We all know the PC's will be the "Deiciders".) It may not stick to the lore, but I'm a fighter, not a LoreMaster.

All I'm really asking for is a little criticism, and a few suggestions that might make the game more enjoyable. All ideas are welcome. Thanks.

The Opposing Evils

Background: Bane and Cyric have always been at each others throats. Ever since before his rebirth, Cyric has constantly tried to absorb Bane’s portfolio. Cyric’s ultimate goal is to become the Lord of strife, fear, intrigue, and murder, to be the ultimate evil in Faerun. His goal is not far at hand. Bane senses his end may be near so he has Incited a Holy War prophecy to that of his Chosen, Fzoul Chembryl. Not long after Bane came to him in a dream, to announce his Chosen status, Fzoul had another vision. This vision was not one of happiness for the Zhentarim, but that of despair and murder. It came to him while he was on the balcony of Zhentil Keep. As he was gazing over the Moonsea a flash of green light engulfed his eyesight. With a green haze accompaning his sight he saw a barren wasteland. Death and Destruction being wrought at the hands of a weak but vast army. Then came Bane his voice booming and terrible. “This is what will become of your land when I perish” He told Fzoul. “If my essence is banished from existence your empires will fall, and so will your power. Think of those who will step on you.” He scoffs and smiles at that. “You will stay weak forever and be placed in The Wall after your death.” Fzoul tried to speak but he simply could not. “In my name purge Faerun of all Betrayers, and followers of the Others. Do this not through murder, for that will please him, but through Law. Keep order by allowing Choice. If they choose to die they will die. Declare the law to be worship Me, and I’m the only way. Conquer many but trust no one, for there are many betrayers in the many Kingdoms, but they will fall in time. Give all slaves citizenship, If they choose me, if not destroy them.” During this Fzoul saw a Dark Sun burning in the sky. Many of his current commanders and lieutenants lined up against the base of the Keep. Hooded men wearing black robes embroidered lined with purple and silver. They lifted their hands toward his people, each covered with a large tattoo. The tattoo depicts a Dark Sun and a Skull set before it. Fzoul, watching the death of many of his acquaintances, lowered his head in shame. “He started this war long ago. His deception has roots with many. Go forth my Tyrant. Own the World in My Name!!” And with that Fzoul picked himself up from the floor of his balcony.
Fzoul immediately recorded every spoken word. He is starting to put his plans into motion.
Many Cyricist are hiding fairly well in small communities do to the recent threat of the Banites. They are using their illusion magic to create the identity of a newly born demigod. Whose name they are told to be The One. This is all alright with Cyric he is pleased with this mass deception. He also has heard word that the Banites plan to convert others to their church . Failure to Convert means death. He is pleased with what his church is doing so far, even with all the in-fighting a few small bands of members have semi-allied themselves with one another to achieve the status of Chosen. Cyric the Prince of Lies is also promising that after the death of Bane a few of the portfolios domains will go unused. He is offering them a chance to Ascend and a chance to rule under him. This is a lie he owes many debts, some being to Malik the Current Chosen. Recent events have confirmed the location an Artifact known has the “Avatane”. Created by Bane to ensure survival after he burst forth from the body of Xvim.
The story has the Bards to Cyric tell goes

“ When Magic goes awry, and a Dark Sun fills the sky
There will come a cry, from the land and many peoples
Mass death, destruction of tower and steeple. The One
Will arise and shed his disguise and bring peace to all
Who keep him. In his hand will be the band that unites
All of his legions. Avatane will be the bane to Tyranny
And all his kind.”

That was of the top of my head so……..Yeah. :D

(The year is 1372 DR the year of Wild Magic. The Campaign will start on the 2nd day of the second tenday of Tarsakh. 4/12/1372.
The Banite start their lawful Genocide has started by Fzoul. Many will be slain in the name of there chosen diety. Cyric will have his followers create a false deity with magic, and claim to be the One. Avatane will cause the person who wields it the first time to be knocked unconscious. Then it incubates the avatar of Bane. Over Night a slimy film will begin appearing on the said victim. Within the second day a thick mucus will have begin to coat the person. By the third day the avatar of Bane will be born from a burst of green light. Cyric plans to have the Avatar killed thus weakening Bane tremendously. Giving him a chance to kill him.)

Adventure Plot Ideas: Basically they are going to start in a village. Being Secretly ran by Cyricist. They are ruling by the Temple of the false deity. They are tolerate of others but they murder innocents for crimes “They” commit. They will do various quest for these guys ( a group of 3 NPC’s devout to Cyric all trying to achieve Chosen status. They each have their own plans. If evil is suspected by the PC’s. Each EG will try to place blame on the other two members.) and eventually if they continue to remain “blind” help Cyric destroy Bane.(Bane has one more failsafe if he falls. Think Xvim.) To keep the world feeling alive I will have various Bards Tales (Other NPC’s could tell them also.) planned for either deceiving or telling the truth. The PC’s may choose to go on these various side quest but the efforts of the Banites and the Cyricist will continue and eventually end up all around the PC’s. I have the first village planned out. All major and minor NPC’s stat blocked and attributed to a certain place in village. Cook, blacksmith, etc. I have a small theives guild set up with reason for it being there. I generated a level 6 rogue in my village creation. Theres that they could go on.

Why I haven’t Started?: I don’t have any maps drawn. Although they have stats they aren’t all fleshed out. Looks and stuff. Figured that would be on the fly. Need Players. Also want to set up miniatures but am out of a job. Have only two written out adventures. And a strong fear that this will fail miserably.

11-20-07, 07:28 AM How many players do you have? What methods have you tried to get players? I know that most of the gaming stores around here at least have boards where people post up numbers and the like, kind of like gaming personal ads. Once you think you are ready to debut, you could post up something like,

"Lonely DM looking for 4 to 6 players who like Forgotten Realms, Cyricist Cultists, and long walks on the beach."

11-20-07, 11:15 AM I live in a small town and any Hobby shops around here are for basket weavers and antique collectors. We had a GameStop, Which I worked at, that closed for lack of customers. I have a group, but we can never get a day where we are all together.

I'd thought about the involvements of other major dieties and realized they wouldn't let their followers be subject to that unless some extreme manipulation was going on. Shar will be a dual love interest of both Bane and Cyric, she is only in it to destroy most of her sisters followers. Fzoul is extended his purge to those of the Art practitioners, unless they follow Bane, this delights Shar to no end. She is also tempting to kill her sister completely, by feeding Cyric lies she will attempt to slay him after he has dispatched of Bane. Thus gaining enough power to eliminate her sister and gain Control of both sides of the Weave. The Netherese have a lot to gain in power if she succeeds.

Shar will be a dual love interest of both Bane and Cyric, she is only in it to destroy most of her sisters followers.
