Hi I'm a pretty laid back DM so keep that in mind. Here's my dilemma, a player made a Orog and rolled max for his height and weight, and has the jutenburd regional feat(although he is not in that region i allowed it for story purposes) his chracter is 8'2" and weighs 490 puunds. Would he still be considerd Med. or would he be large? The second part is that he plans on having enlarge person casted on him by the Sor of the party before every combat until he gets him a ring of growth which puts him at 16' 3920 pounds. Now if he was large to start with in the first question would this new height/weight make him go from Large to Huge.

I am stuck as to what I think, and wuold like to know others opinion before I tell him one way or another.

I've always had a rule of thumb that seemed to hold true for the most part, that 7' was where you start thinking seriously about becoming Large, and the further you go past that mark, the more likely you are to get a size increase.

8'2" would definitely be Large, in my opinion, with a corresponding +1 LA

I agree with Kessalin, I would consider the PC large.
If a normal full grown ogre is 9-10 feet tall, a PC over 8' is in that range.
Seems like the enlarged version of the PC is right on the cusp of huge. It would not be out of bounds to say that he/she would move up to huge.

-Ditto to the two above posts. Their ideas get my vote as well...

I looked up in the monster manual about creature sizes and it says the following.
Med: 4ft-8ft, 60-500 pounds (now he barely passes the height but is just short of the weight so thats why im not too shure)
Large: 8ft-16ft, 500-4000 (enlarged is the same way he barey makes height but is under the weight again)
Huge: 16ft-32ft, 2-16 tons( again the smae as before)

Now if he ends up being large instead of med, and huge instead of large when he is enlarged he is like at the shortest measurements he can be. Which is ok really cause this guy plays the me big me smash fight fight type characters. So we have 3 votes that he shuld be large to start with thanks for the input.

Now my second question is does he get any kind of modifiers now since he wont be a med character. I know of the base speed +10', 10' reach, -1 to atk/AC, +4 grapple, -4 hide/move silently, but does he gain any other ability modifiers for going up one size category.

Since he just happens to be large because of lucky die rolls, I wouldn't use the ability score modifiers for advancing in size.

If you decide to do that anyway, I strongly suggest assigning a +1 level adjustment for size, as +8 Str, +4 Con, and +2 natural armor are a significant benefit for a presumably melee built character.

Goliaths from Races of Stone (and fully detailed somewhere on the main D&D pages) can be eight feet tall and have a rule called "Powerful Build" (a bit like the Jotunbrund regional feat from FR's, except it allows them to use large-sized weapons).

They (Goliaths) are tall and are considered to be large when it's beneficial to them, ie: when grappled, swallowed etc...

I'd go with that. :)
