Hey guys-

I have a bit of a hole in my background (err, well, my character's background, I mean) and it occurred to me that folks here might have the knowledge I and my DM need to fill it in.

My character, Eltharion, was born and raised on Evermeet, becoming a Bladesinger and eventually working for/with a particular elven house (unnamed). He carried out whatever tasks the head of the house asked without much thought or concern for hidden agendas- he is not particularly politically minded and rather assumed that the nobleman he worked for had everyone's best interests at heart.

Unfortunately, that is not the case. When the Drow infiltrated Evermeet and killed the King, Eltharion pieced together the fact that he had ben duped into assisting in the plot- certain missions his lord had sent him to perform materially (but not directly) assisted the Drow in their nefarious goals. Clearly the noble Eltharion worked for was in league with the Drow in this plot, and therefore Eltharion himself had a hand in it as well.

With this realization Eltharion had a choice to make: Remain silent and allow his Lord to get away with what he had done, or reveal all, bringing shame on himself and his family in the process. In the end there was only one choice he could make, and so he gathered together what evidence he could- implicating both his Lord and himself- and left it where it would be found by loyal servants of the Queen before slipping through a portal to the mainland. For the past 43 years he has been an exile on mainland Faerun, trying to do what good he can to make up for his past actions.

Ok, that was the background I wrote for the character (who started at 13th level, by the way- he was a replacement for a character in an ongoing campaign who retired for plot reasons).

You'll note that exactly what Eltharion did is relatively nebulous. This is because between myself and my DM we aren't exactly sure how the whole thign went down, so we were pretty much stumped. I'm sure someone here can post a thumbnail of how things occurred and might even be able to suggest elven nobles who were implicated in the proceedings or what precisely Eltharion might have done...

Thanks in advance!

Well, in that case, can anyone even point me in a general direction of where the events surrounding the assassination are outlined? I can't seem to find my copy of Elves of Evermeet but I seem to recall that even there they just kind of say "he was killed" without going into the hows, whys, and Book Repositories of the whole thing.

It's in the Evermeet Novel. Sorry. I didn't really have any thoughts on your chars background though.

IIRC, Zoar was killed at the beginning of Elfshadow by a Sun Elf.

Your right I think. Sorry, but some of the Evermeet novel can also help him. :)

Gah. I actually read Elfshadow 12 years ago (suddenly I feel very old), but heck if I can remember it now.

I'll look both of those books up for more info. Thanks guys!

Which is why I don't remember that part and was guessing, to many novels to remember.

It's been awhile since I read it as well, which is why I added that IIRC.

Yeah- the difference is, Elfshadow is one of maybe two Official D&D Novels I've actually read. :)

Anyway, thanks again for your help!

Evermeet actually has a fairly detailed description of how the King was assassinated - by accident actually as the assassin was actually attempting to hit one of the kings daughters (can't recall the name at the moment) and her Harper boyfriend. It is described in the later parts of the novel, and takes place in the garden. The king was mistaken for a gardener and the assassin killed the "gardener" simply to keep him from alerting his actually target. It was only have the dagger found its mark that the assassin recognized the "gardener" as the King.

As for the name of a clan...that would be tough since the attack altough aided by the spellsingers on the island...there was never mention of a clan on the island that actively aided in the invasion.

I just finished reading the book not that long ago, and is still rather fresh in my mind thats the only reason I replied.

BTW, the assassin was actually killed by Kemil Nimesin, the leader of the invasion. His family, Nimesin, left Evermeet for Cormanthor shortly after Zoar became king.

ksu_bond- The princess you're thinking of is Amnestria, Arilyn Moonblade's mother, and the Harper is Bran Skorlsun, her father.

Whoa, thanks for the heads-up and the description (which I snipped). I'll have to get that novel, then- it sounds like it has exactly what I need!
