Hey all....I've played alot of D&D back in my highschool days, DMing....now I'm back again, turned on by this new 3.5 Edition. I'm starting a campaign in the Realms, its my first time doing so. I must say I am blown away by the detail and richness of it all, I am a big fantasy junkie, and this is it.
I've got the FRCS book, and last week i picked up the PGtF for the 3.5 update. Also i have UNA, RAC, SilverMarches, Shining South, and Monsters of Faerun.
I'm really confused with the Players Guide book. It says that it updates and supercedes Chapters 1 thru 3 of FRCS. What stays the same in Chapter 1?
I'm understand the Regional Feats and such, then i get to the Classes section in FRCS and there is nothing about it in PGtF...Does it remain untouched? They have preferred character regions in each class description.
Also, under the race description in FRCS, do the stats after each race description remain untouched?
I dunno...just need a little help getting me started. I pretty much understood everthing till i picked up PGtF....now i'm confused...I'm ready to start creating my parties characters with them, and need some insight on the proper way to do so since the update...
Thanks alot...

More proof the Players guide to Faerun really isn’t a players guide.
Good book, bad name.

Stat adjustments, it none are given in the PGtF,(and I don’t think any are, or at least many) you use the adjustments in the FRCS (or RoF).

The regional feats and such, I’m a little shaky on. As I don’t necessarily “play by the rules” when allowing character creation.
I think IIRC, PGtF retooled the whole regional feat stuff.

Players guide supercedes the information from the setting. That means that whatever is not in plyaers guide stays the same as in the setting. I know that in players guide they messed around with some regional feats and equipment. Basically they relocated them somewhat and some of the feats now have different wording so check for it in players guide. Prestige classes are detailed(and updated) in players guide and you should use those if you are playing 3,5e.

Thanks for the help. I seem to understand it a little better. I honestly didn't like how they went about this book, like you mentioned Player's Guide?
I tried to go without getting it, but playing 3.5 i figured it would be hard to go around it.
I'm planning on starting my campaign in either Dalelands, Mistledale or the Silver Marches. Which one i start in though, i'll lead them later to the other.
I've thought about placing 2 of the 3.0 Edition D&D ADventures in, The Sunless Citadel, and the Forge of Fury. I originally wanted to place the Sunless Citadel outside of Mistledale where the meteor hit, instead of that happening i was gonna change it to the Sunless Citadel where the dragon (dragons?) blasted the wilderness, but why would the trees and such not grow back? I see a meteor causing the trees not growing back, but what can i incorporate using the SUnless Citadel. I think it looks like a nice adventure to introduce me and my players to 3.5, though i know the adventures are 3.0, i don't see making many changes. The Forge Of Fury of course i planned on sticking off to the mountains to the west, i forget their name. But i think it would make an excellent place to stick it.
What do you think? I know part of being a DM is changing things to your liking, i don't wanna change the Realms drastically, but enough to put my stamp of originality on it. Of course, I plan on writing my own adventures once i get the swing of things.
Again, thanks for the help.
Peace.

One of the things i'm really confused with is the Regions. I understand everything from PGtF...but whats confusing me is when I look at the FRCS, under each character description, they list preferred character regions. I believe i understand from reading PGtF that you only choose one region, right? So whats the deal with the character class regions? Should i avoid them, use them to help the pc's picking a racial region, or what?

re: regions

I think the double coverage is just to make it easier, not more confusing. If you know what race you want to play, or what class, then you can figure out from the list where your character might be from; or, if you know where you want your character to be from, you can figure out what race or class he could be.

Multi-classed characters would either want to pick classes, all of which came from one region, or just assume that at some point in character's life, he moved.

It's been awhile since I looked at it (and as I said, I don't necessarily “play by the rules”).

If you pick a class, and correspond it to a starting region for classes in FRCS, you get to choose from the “bonus starting equipment list”.
If you want to play a class not listed in a region, you still can, you just don’t get the bonus stuff.
With the PGtF, you could still pick the regional feats if you want.

In the original 3.0 FRCS you could get regional feats in game by spending alot of time in a region and having knowledge local in that region. In PGTF you can only choose one regional feat and that only at level 1.

Yes the added equipment was/is added when your chosen race and the area you start in match. So tieflings in Imiltur-Damara, but not in cormyr, etc....
