Yes. :) There's the upper underdark, middle underdark, and lower underdark. All of them stretch across the world.

For purposes of "surface area" the Underdark has the potential to be larger, since the surface world has just one surface, while the Underdark has layers and layers upon layers.

It is as large and as small as you want to make it.

07-29-05, 12:31 AM The crust of Toril is like a swiss cheese. It is riddled with cracks and fissures and caverns measureless by man. The underdark goes down several miles--probably all the way down to the mantle. And it extends under the seas and oceans. It is really, really big.

Some people have speculated that the population of the underdark may actually exceed the population of the surface, but that may just be a really wild guess.

07-29-05, 03:44 AM Then again, the area of habitable terrain in the Underdark is bound to be a mere fraction of the surface. There's only so much of an ecosystem a bunch of fungi can sustain.
