cfrerich 05-18-04, 04:50 PM	I'm currently reading "Prince of Lies," a story of a couple of months of Cyric's life as a god. It frequently aludes to some other work about how Cyric and Mystra became gods and also of Kelemvor Lyonsbane's and Adon's dealings with the pair. My question is, what novel is this all told in? The note at the start of the book mentions the Avatar Trilogy, but i can't find that on amazon. Can anyone help me?

DwarvenBrew 05-18-04, 06:17 PM	There is a good chance that you can find the Avatar trilogy in you local library or in a used book store. I see the trilogy often enough at both places. Kelemvor, Cyric and Midnight (now Mystra) are mortals throughout most of the series, but take on the portfolios of various fallen gods by the end. I think that Adon was a cleric of Sune, but he get disfigured, goes through a depression period, and later becomes a cleric of Mysta IIRC.
anglar 05-18-04, 07:31 PM	Cyric was able to capture the Tablets of Fate and return them to Ao during the Time of Troubles. During this time, several deities had died, leaving various openings. Ao awarded Cyric his godhood, and gave him domain over Strife, Lies, Death, Intrigue, and some others which I can't remember right now. He wound up losing some of these to Kelemvor and Bane.

As for the thing about "can't talk about the novels:" I read the anouncements and posts, and from what I gathered, you can still talk about novels, just not reproduce/post the actual texts of them. Also, you are not allowed to discuss/complain about the dispersion of the novel forum. With that said, I will stop discussing the very subject.
Gotrex 05-19-04, 05:52 AM	id strongly surgest you dont read anymore of prince of lies untill the other books are done since its no longer the avatar trilogy you see its the avatar series shdowdale tantras waterdeep prince of lies crucible: trial of cyric the mad you wont get some of the referances if you dont read them in order

Zanan 05-19-04, 06:39 AM	Folk ... just don't overstretch this "novels are not allowed to be discussed" stuff before checking the rules ;) For ... you'll find the deification of Cyric in Faiths & Avatars (the AD&D sourcebook for almost all human deities) which includes all stuff of the Avatar novel series up until Prince of Lies. You get a shorter writeup of him in surprise surprise, the FRCS and a full write-up in Faiths & Pantheons. As in: as long as the novel discussion goes on about official NPC (be they gods, or mortals or monsters) or events within the Realms, you are of course allowed to talk about them. You should not speak about the novel as such ... how you like it, how you dislike the style of the writer and what have you. Speak about the facts and figures and you are on the safe side, especially if the events of a novel have a sourcebook - back-up.

(http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=185204) I am also going to repeat (for the umpteenth time) Do not post your guesses, hunches, summaries, interpretations etc of the rules .... it just leads to even more confusion! Please just post a link to the rule. This thread has violated the rules on novels in several ways 1/. The original post and aim of this thread was talking about novels ... which novels have which content, where to find them and which ones to read. 2/. Subsequent posts focussed on which books to read, and where to buy them. 3/. A comment was made on how good the books are. If you thought these posts were ok because of what other people said then READ THE ACTUAL RULES! If you have read the rules then STOP BREAKING THEM! To those who tried to get people to read the new rules and follow them ... many, many, many thanks. It makes the seeminlgy endless frustration of saying the same thing over and over a lot less painful :) Thread now closed.
