| dan123404-28-06, 12:17 AM | Are you talking about how to set up an existing town? If so I find the second edition books to be very useful. They usually have detailed maps of towns and such... But if you mean creating a new one, then I think it's explained in the DM guide. But what I usually to I start with the map, and then I assign certain buildings to certain things (shops, inns) depending on the size you want. Then I create NPC that run those buildings. I establish a population (1000, or 200 or whatever). Then I decide there alignment, how the town is run (mayor or whatever), the "watch" if there is one. Then I go with organisations that have set up camp in town, and if there link to certain people in town. That's about how I do, probably more stuff that I am forgetting. But I usually decide population and size of town first... |

| Book04-28-06, 03:39 PM | Everything you need is in DMG2. The publishing of that book had as a major emphasis point - the detailed fleshing out of D&D population centers at all levels. Get the book, follow it verbatim, and all your problems will be solved. |
