I want to know how Khelben defends his precious tower and the magic items within. Is there any written lore about it, or does anyone have an idea? Tell me how do you think Blackstaff tower is defended...

In novels...

Silverfall: Stories of the Seven Sisters
Elfshadow

I'm not too sure about Elfshadow, but I know that Khelben's tower is described several times in the Songs & Swords series. There's a mention of an invisible door. Or something.

Waterdeep and The North, both 2E sources; go into it at length.

City System has a map of it. Or at least a partial map of some of the floors.

If you can find the old Faerun map map book (cant remeber the actual title, its been so long since my little brother lost it), but they had a drawing of the tower

Yes, it's partially mapped in the Forgotten Realms Atlas and FRE3 Waterdeep. Several of Ed's novels have scenes set within.

In the Realms, secure areas like that are protected from entry and scrying by multi-layered warding spells.

Having read novels and whatnot concerning the Tower, I imagine it as a tall, black, unadorned spire of smooth stone with no windows or doors. Of course, you could place anything within. I'm certain I read that the interior dimensions do not match the assumed dimensions from the outside.

I remember that there's a portal to a cave in somewhere cold, in place of a refrigerator. Oh, and another portal to some tree or another that bears fruits all years.

Probably not what you're looking for, though. ;)

I always envision a simple black obelisk (Inspired by control spires from Digimon season 2, if you've seen it). But I suppose it would have to have a flat top for the events of the novel Waterdeep to take place on top of it.
