| Ezekiel (NL)08-23-04, 01:34 PM | I was just curious: How long does it take to play a campaign in your world?? My last campaign, lasted for three years (we played twice every three weeks). They started at level 1 and ended at level 21. thanx, Ezekiel |

Most of my face to face games usually last about a year our time as well...... |
| The ShapeLess One08-23-04, 01:47 PM | The Last FR game I played lasted for 5 months. Started at lvl 1 ended at lvl 16. Almost a TPK so the DM said this one is over, I think we were in Chult |
| Tempus66508-23-04, 05:30 PM | Currently I'm DMing 2 campaigns. One of them has been going on for about 6 years now, it took the PC's from level 1 to level 26 (currently, but we're not even halfway done with that campaign). The other campaign started the PC's out at level 6, has been going on for about 5 months now, and I expect it will last for another year (during which the PC's will probably advance to level 13/14). |
| Mystery Man08-23-04, 06:28 PM | 8 months for my current one, I suspect another year or so, maybe longer. I may take a break to run an Eberron campaign. |
| Crust08-23-04, 07:42 PM | Interesting question. I'm amazed I haven't seen it before. My current campaign has been going for 3 1/2 years, ever since I acquired all three 3E books for Christmas in 2000. PCs started at 1st level in Waterdeep, and are now NPCs with 25+ levels. Current PCs (who are just now hitting epic levels) are the students, comrades, and peers of the original group. My longest running campaign lasted just over 4 years. I'm wondering when I'll restart my current campaign. I'm sending them to Tu'narath to face Vlaakith, and once that's over and done with, I'm not sure if I'll want to carry on. We'll see what happens. |
| Board_Rider09-01-04, 11:12 PM | I wish my campaigns lasted so long. Usually the most we get is a few months at best. Sucks. |
| The_Declaration09-01-04, 11:32 PM | my last campaign lasted 5 months. I just started a new one that I expect to be quite long (2 years approximately). |
| Your Immortal DM09-01-04, 11:44 PM | 3 years from 1st to 26th + a few ECL templates. It was a good game, didn't end the best (out of game disputes), but one of my favorites none the less. I have a new game brewing and I hope it turns out as good. Started at 1st level and their 3rd level now (we'll see what happens). Your Immortal DM |
| chme09-02-04, 05:28 AM | My current campaign has just passed 200 hours (in 1.5 years). The PCs are currently level 4, as they started on apprentice level and get XP only for reaching their goals and for roleplaying (no monster killing xp). I plan to continue the campaign as long we're having fun. I would love for it to become a really long run (10+ years) campaign with PCs getting into epic levels eventually. At the moment, we've decided and scheduled for it to continue another year. |
| Thelandrach09-02-04, 10:14 AM | They usually last until I either run out of modules to run or the PC's get too powerful for me to GM (I have a problem GMing characters higher-level than I have played myself; each time I run I push the envelope a little farther). They usually last a year or two, and then we start over at 1st level. The first campaign went through the original Temple of Elemental Evil and ran to about 8th level before they blew it up real good; the next one went through the Slave Lords/Giants modules (not necessarily in that order...) and made it to about 9th level; the next went through a bunch of little modules (Needle, Egg of the Phoenix), and stopped at about 10th; the last one went through Dragon Mountain and the Dungeon Crawl (2nd edition) modules; they got to about 12th level. Current campaign is going through the 3rd ed. module series--Sunless Citadel, Standing Stones, etc. They're 7th level, and I hope to run through 15th level this time. |
| The Tracer09-02-04, 11:12 AM | My first campaign lasted 3 1/2 years going from 1st through 19th level....The new one picks up with the children/students of the previous campaign...They are having to figure out how the entire school/town their parents ran disappeared :schemes: This campaign will be a jaunt across the planes to find their parents...I am planning on ending when they are 24-25 level.... |
| dragonheart09-04-04, 04:45 PM | Given that I have been moving often since starting to play anything over a year to 2 years would be amazing. What I've taken to doing is seeing if I can't bring my characters from earlier campaigns into ones I find while I am living in that area. I also run a version of Faerun where I use all my PCs as NPCs and bring other folks old (or new) characters into it. I've been running it (or at least keeping it more or less current with notes) for about 5 years now. |
| R-man09-06-04, 07:35 AM | My campaign has been running in my own heavily altered version of Greyhawk for seven and a half years. The campaign is presently in Campaign part 4, with each part having new characters. The overall storyline has been one continuing story with the older (retired) characters returning. Part 1 was the Heros going to stop and slay the elder Cthulian deities that where attempting to push through into their world, The Pc's got the chosen weapons needed to destroy the deities but upon arrival to the underground lair found out that the PC's where not the chosen weilders of the weapons. Part 2 was of course the chosen weilders just starting out as adventurers who where eventually found by one of the Part 1 PC's gathered together and went to defeat the deities. Part 3 was the uneasy peace that followed after all of the Cthulian deities were not killed and the Cold war that followed. Part 3b was from the point of view of the Cthulians and was an evil party. Part 4 is on another world (reason not given due to other players perusing these boards). Part 4 is still in the early stages. |
| Zanan09-06-04, 08:40 AM | Vendui! I started the Night Below campaign (set in Impiltur) in early 1999. We play about once a week, started off at level 1 (AD&D) and last week, most characters achieved 16th level (3E/RE). There were a few side-missions, as for example the "Headless" adventure from one of the Dungeons. An online game I ran at the German boards lasted about two years as well. |
| Forsaken_Rocker09-07-04, 08:09 AM | My group is in a mess of campaign's right now, we have our main one (dm'd by me) which has been going since late july lvls 1-6 but im planning on having it go for awhile. The second one is an epic campaign, a little side thing we are doing when we dont have time for the big one. The third is a modern one that actually hasnt started yet, but everyone is ready to play, the fourth is not dm'ed by me and is barely started. My campaigns usually dont get finished, ive only had 2 players in most of my campaigns and they hate each other (brothers) usually someone gets mad at someone and they stop playing and its just annoying. but im hoping for my big campaign to last until december or so (playing every weekend or so) |
| LordZetal09-07-04, 01:43 PM | Currently my Realms table game is running and it will hopefully go till July of 2005. But i have been running a Home brew campaign for just over a year and that looks as if will finaly reach a close in about July also. So i am averaging campaign lengths of about a year.. Not counting the campaigns of TPK. |
| Sylvos09-07-04, 03:22 PM | Out campaigns generally last anywhere from 3 weeks to 3 years. We will occasionally take a break from an existing campaign and start a new "mini-campaign" that lasts only a few sessions or weeks. At the moment we have about 5 going. 1. Our main Forgotten Realms campaign going on 17 months. Levels 1-27 so far. 2. Our new Campaign which is based in Eberron. Level 1+ 3. Side campaign - Underdark campaign in Forgotten Realms levels 12-18. (COTSQ - off and on few months) 4. Side campaign - Evil campaign based in Forgotten Realms level 1+ (Serpent Kingdoms motif) (off and on for the last month) 5. Our standby campaign - Warcraft d20. Level 1-22 so far - great campaign setting. (almost a year now) heck i forgot about our other 2. 6. d20 modern_future urban arcana. (a month mabye) 7. d20 Modern _ urban arcana (hrm 6? 7? months) Either way each campaign lasts roughly i'd say if its not a main one about a month and a half at most before we go back to the main campaigns. |
| GlimFolkor123409-08-04, 10:10 PM | I've been DM'ing a campaign in FR for about 2 and a half years. We play on average about once a month. We usually have 4 to as many as 8 players (and me), averaging about 6 (though not the same six all the time). Most of the regulars are 10th level, almost 11th. I routinely level bump the PCs who play less regularly to keep them no more than 2 levels behind. We occasionally take breaks to do other things. One of the guys is thinking about setting up an Eberron campaign, so we may sidetrack into there for awhile. Or I may start adding Eberron things into my FR campaign (like action points and warforged...) |
| RPGhaulsass09-11-04, 08:48 AM | Ours only lasts 1-3 months... 3 months at max... Blows ass when you finally manage to play the one character you TRULY like, then after a month you hear the DM go "I wanna be a PC again... NEW GAME!" I've prolly played 5-6 campaigns the last year, perhaps even more. |
| AvengedMutablegenus09-11-04, 02:38 PM | my gaming group is growing on one year now, but then again they didn't start out in the realms, they've probably been in the realms for 8-9 months and about about 3 years in FR time. ~mutable |
| Jerryd09-11-04, 04:41 PM | The current campaign I'm a player in has been going on for 6 3/4ths years of real time, abuot 23 Realms years, and over 800 sessions. We're in the second generation of PC's now, with the 3rd-gen still toddlers. A few of the 1st-gen characters are of epic level. |
| Junon Ghostblade09-12-04, 07:31 PM | I played in a Realms campaign that lasted 4 years and I branched mine off of it to continue along with the same and new characters and it went on for about 4 years, and in realms time it covered about 65 years. I played in a Dark Sun campaign that lasted 3 -4 years. Most usually last about 6 months. Most 3rd edition ones last even less because it's so easy to level up and the game becomes just purely unplayable. (they should revert to second ed. levelling up was more spread out.) |
| Erianys Coldrage09-12-04, 07:57 PM | my campaign last usually about 2-3 years. Me and my most experienced friend are curently switching Dm place. We have about 5 campaign running all in FR but since each Dm take into consideration the events of others campaign, well its much like a huge campagn. 1) My friend Dming the older campaign and since hes tired of Dming that the only one hes Dming. This one have last the past 4 years and its not finnish! 2)I DM an evil campaign since 3years wich the main goal was the resurection of the dead god of murder and death, Bhaal, wich succeeded. now im making a dual approach with those Evil Pcs with my other campaign. They r about lvl 16 3) my recent campaign is a good one and the character are now lvl 10-12 and been running it like 8 months. What is interesting in this one is that evil Pcs play a role in it so my PCs see what happens on both sides 4)first attempt of a player to be DM and its good. Been running for three months and we r lvl 5. 5)Old campaign that my epic dm abandonned and one of the player want to retake and dm it, not started but weve got everythin in hand, should start soon. :D |
