How much should my DM charge me? [Archive] - Wizards Community

04-15-05, 11:39 PM ok i was looking at getting a dire panther to ride as a mount. i need to know price. i'm in an exotic area that i would either find one or find someone selling one but i need to know the price the DM and me kept looking and couldn't come up with one. we are both saying around 25k if not more depending on the advancement it has. can someone quote me up a price for one or a baby one so that i can train it myself.

ps - if you are wondering why i want one it is a mount that is good in the eyes of my goddess sharess goddess of sex and cats

04-16-05, 12:39 AM I wouldn't think that much.

Consider some exotic mounts from the Arms & Equipment Guide for comparision:

A Krenshar costs 500gp for a young one, and 500 gp to train it as a guard animal or maybe 1000-1500 to train it as a mount.
A worg costs 1000 gp for a pup, and 1,500 gp to train as a mount.

Magical beasts cost more:

A hieracosphinx costs 5,500 gp for an egg and 2,500 gp to train.
A Wyvern costs 3,000 for a young and 3,000 gp to train.
A blink dog costs 10,000 gp for a young and 1,000 gp to train.
A shadow mastiff costs 10,000 gp for a young and 3,000 gp to train.

Surely your dire panther would fall somewhere in that range.

But really, prices for exotics are whatever the market will bear. So if the seller thinks he can get more from you, then that is what he will try to charge.

If he doesn't have the critter but has to go hunt and capture you one from the wild, then that may take a little more time but he may charge a more fair price commensurate with his time, expenses involved, skill, difficulty involved, competition with other providers of such services and what he thinks he can get away with charging you.

04-17-05, 07:40 PM what we decided was that since i was wanting it to be my cohort(cuz i have leadership)/bodyguard/mount. and i worship the cat goddess Sharess that i would give 2k to the temple of sharess in Calmishan, and then perform a ritual for her that would last 5 days long and she would grant me one if i performed everything to her likings.

04-19-05, 11:17 PM If you're in an exotic area.. the price might be lower than say somewhere on the sword coast. I'm thinking 2k is a bit high, especially if it's Godess granted. 1k sounds more reasonable in my opinion

04-20-05, 05:50 AM he isn't making me pay 2k for the panther he is making me contribute 2k to the church which is pretty much bribing my goddess for a piece of her to protect me, it came out being a celestial dire panther of sharess, so it gets special qualities when it fights lizardmen. also we agreed that i would do the ritual at my temple in the north and send the money by fedex (lol) to calmishan at the main temple.
