I just got the Faiths and Pantheons book, but, unless I missed it, it doesn't say what you have to do to become a deity. I know you need Lord AO's approval, and I know you need followers, and probably a fairly high level... Are there any "special" requirements?

Your best bet would be to follow the rules presented in Deities and Demigods and to apply them to the Forgotten Realms in whichever way mister DM of the Campaign wants.

Now I have to buy that book too!!! GRRR. How much does that one cost?

Until I have the money to get it, what are the rules or whatever... by the way I'm the DM.

Thanks

Coincidence mainly :)

you need 2 things

to impress Ao
and have a god die or be striped of a portfolio that suits your character

Oh yeah, no two gods of the same pantheon can't have the same portfolio, so that person would have to have the god die who has that portfolio... I just repeated what you said right? How would a mortal kill the deity?

Hey I'm wondering if you could make an offer to Ao to become a deity for a NEW Portfolio??????????

I see no reason why no... possibly a more specific one? Or one not used like a deity who is only for druids, and doesn't recogonize other worshipers, or possibly only druids and rangers?

Now... no one directly talks to Ao unless they have the pleasure of being a diety... so trying to convince him to make anything new is kind of out of the question... Ao observes all mortals and if one fits some portfolio or godly duty that he believes is a bit lacking then he will ask the mortal if he wishes to be a god. Basically the mortal has to show to be exceedingly exceptional in respect to something... Ex. Paladin single handedly slays whole huge orc horde and four-five dragons to protect his village (its extreme but alone the right lines)... Secondly a mortal can get sponsorship from a diety... this means that a diety thinks that the specific mortals should be dieties and basically puts a good word for them... Ao is still the final arbitrator to that. While Dieties and Demigods provides possibilities for DMs on how to become a god... The Forgotten realms already has a system and it mostly involves the Overgod Ao. Eitherway the mortal has to be exceptional and quite powerful... The mortal in question has to also distinguish himself through some particular action... another example to add to Uber-Paladin... is perhaps a Necromancer raises a huge army and loves undead... he then does evil things, experiments, and is truly exceptional... far more so than velsharoon... Ao thinks about it... maybe he elevates the mortal to demigod status (with mortal's approval) or maybe not... I am repeating myself but to sum it all up, you have to be really exceptional enough to catch Ao's attention (or have a god put in a good word for ya)

Ok, that settles my question. Thank you for all who replied.

The post right above this one really gave me a good understanding.

Glad to be of service hehe... One of my parties became a set of dieties and their own pantheon... was a different game... if you DM when they are dieties... you will have to change the game... because they will be too powerful... hence the attention of the game will go towards the dieties followers and policy... that way the game will still be interesting... if you want make them role play some of their followers... hell if you DM in that way the group can go on eternally lol... Just a thought... :)
