| PurpleWorm06-08-06, 05:09 PM | Heya I'm still kind of new to pen and paper D&D so to speak. I've been playing the computer game equivilants for quite some time though. When I was 11, I bought "Icewind Dale", and have since ploughed through every single D&D game I could find. (Post-1998, that is.) It got to the point where the computer games weren't enough though, and *real* D&D caught my interest. I've been reading the rules for a while, but it was only recently I found players. I took them through a few published adventures, but they had no experience, just like me. The characters were really just tests, and it was evident they weren't there to stay. So now we have four new characters in the works, and I'm trying to create a campaign of sorts. The only stipulation is that I want it set in the Forgotten Realms. Oh, those fond memories of Baldur's Gate! And the many tie-in books I've read. They're not Shakespeare, but they're not bad. Now, finally to my question. I'm going to start my Campaign with "The Sunless Citadel". I'd like some suggestions on how to fit it into the world of Faerun. I have the following books which I can refer to: Forgotten Realms: Campaign Setting Faiths and Pantheons Player's Guide to Faerun Races of Faerun On a side note, is it really necessary to use the myriad of languages suggested by the Player's Guide to Faerun? Everyone speaks common, so what's the point? And what extra steps should I take in making the characters truly Faerunian? Thanks in advance. :) |

Just replace the town in the module with practically ANY small town in Faerun, like Daggerford (where I'm starting my next campaign). Just place the Citadel where ever you want (for the Daggerford example: in the Lizard Marsh, in between Daggerford and the Misty Forest). These fantasy worlds have dungeons and sunken citadels everywhere ;) Now as for a little Forgotten Realms flavor, if I remember correctly, the Sunless Citadel dungeon starts off with some ancient undead dragon worshippers, right? Turn them into ancient undead Cult of the Dragon members (future nemesis in the campaign?). |
| PurpleWorm06-10-06, 04:25 PM | Where can I get specific information on The Cult of the Dragon? One of my friends has "Faiths and Pantheons", but is it actually in there? |
| GothicDan06-10-06, 04:29 PM | Nope. There's a 2E book, The Cult of the Dragon, which I believe is available for free pdf download on WotC's old editions download page. |

One of my friends has "Faiths and Pantheons", but is it actually in there? no the wearer of purple PRC is in there but nothing on the orginization, I always thought the wearer in purple was an odd pick for the book |
| Hercule_Longfist06-10-06, 04:50 PM | The novel Pool of Radiance had information on the Cult, as they are the main antagonist. If you would like I can paraphrase what I gathered from there. |
| PurpleWorm06-10-06, 05:53 PM | Well it would be very appropriate to "The Sunless Citadel". There's a group of Kobolds who have moved into the ruins there, knowing that a Dragon Cult once inhabited it. Would the Kobolds have any small part in the cult? Or would they just be pretenders? Oh, and I found where the Cult of the Dragon Download is: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dnd/downloads This is another useful link: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/fr/20010328b Seems I have all the information I need! I think that any Kobolds who presumed to be part of the cult would either be used somehow by it, or in fact shunned entirely. |
| JaiaDrottsingr06-11-06, 07:12 PM | On the language note: all inteligent races speak common. But only on the surface. There are still exceptions for the intelligent (Um, like Pikel, "Oo OI!") and unintelligent (Like the good-hearted gnoll that taught Jaia his version of Gnollan, An edited version of Gnollan, one that includes words that have no counter-point in Gnollan, emotions, opposites, feelings and... well its also less offensive.) things. They can be used to communicate with other races, talk in secret, or eavesdrop. Draconic is used for most spells. |
