| Zeromus04-25-06, 08:22 PM | 'Lo, so I was wondering what kind of things a Moon Elf would call a Drow or a Drow sympathizer. Any suggestions would be great. |
| Max the Immortal04-25-06, 10:14 PM | "Spider-kisser" is a pretty common slang term for Lolthian drow; often used by non-Lolthian drow. I imagine that surface elves would use it a lot, too. "Dhaerow", the ancient elven word for "traitor" and the origin of the word "drow", is pretty much the most dire insult in the elven language. You pretty much can't use that word and not fight someone to the death. |
| Yokinobu04-25-06, 11:19 PM | Not really name calling, but if you hold your hand out, face your palm up, and curl your fingers half-way in toward your palm, you can really **** off Lolthian clergy; the symbol represents a dead spider. |
| Mad Mage04-25-06, 11:39 PM | - crush/kill a spider in front of them - have creature that eats/kills spiders as a cohort/animal companion/familiar (depending upon rules and availability) |
| Lord Karsus04-26-06, 12:18 AM | -Most other expletatives would work, as well. -The Drow are a religious bunch, so ill-speaking about their deities (Lolth, Kiransalee, Vhaeraun, Ghaunadaur...) would also work. |
| Priest_of_Shaundakul04-26-06, 01:18 AM | -call them a sunburned elf -call them an ebony faerie -ask a drow priestess why she isn't in the kitchen :D |
| Another Gnome04-26-06, 01:42 AM | Exist... |
| Zanan04-26-06, 05:34 AM | Exist... That's the best of the lot, no doubt! :D |
| BadCatMan04-26-06, 12:14 PM | Spider-sucking, matronf___ing, mushroom eating, Rothe shagging, cave-grubbing, second-rate scheming filthy loser elves who after millenia of inbreeding and demon-orgies couldn't even sprout a decent spell-like ability or a better Con score, and are forever doomed to be self-obsessed posers with rubbish Eighties haircuts and an unending pile of angst? |
| BrianCritchley04-26-06, 02:08 PM | problem with moon elves insulting drow and drow insulting moon elves is to a moon elf drow IS a vile insult. and to a drow Faerie Elf IS a vile insult. |
| Faraer04-26-06, 04:59 PM | The elven response to drow is to fight or flee, not swap insults. But among themselves, elves call drow "the Dark Elves" and "The Accursed" ("Elminster's Everwinking Eye: Words To The Wise", Polyhedron #74). |
| Zanan04-26-06, 05:16 PM | BadCatMan ... I doubt a drow would even flinch at that. After all, the elves ended up as loosers ... and big time. |
| Parcival, the OrcHunter04-26-06, 07:24 PM | I'm wondering really is this a thread on how best to anger a drow or how easiest to be killed by one? :D Either way this one should work: Run naked through the Underdark screaming "Lolth's a wh0re" while wearing a neon sign that reads "Lolth's a lesbian" |
| BrianCritchley04-27-06, 12:33 AM | I'm wondering really is this a thread on how best to anger a drow or how easiest to be killed by one? :D Either way this one should work: Run naked through the Underdark screaming "Lolth's a wh0re" while wearing a neon sign that reads "Lolth's a lesbian" umm I doubt anyone would care if you called Lloth a lesbian. the War of the Spider Queen series hinted that lesbinism or bisexuality is not only not stigmatized among the drow but may actually be fairly common |
| Lord Karsus04-27-06, 12:39 AM | umm I doubt anyone would care if you called Lloth a lesbian. the War of the Spider Queen series hinted that lesbinism or bisexuality is not only not stigmatized among the drow but may actually be fairly common -Wasn't there a Drow Matron, or something similar, in one of the Baldurs Gate Games, and/or novels that was a lesbian? I believe so...This, at least, proves that they do exist. |
| BrianCritchley04-27-06, 12:54 AM | -Wasn't there a Drow Matron, or something similar, in one of the Baldurs Gate Games, and/or novels that was a lesbian? I believe so...This, at least, proves that they do exist. yes indeed. in the baulder's gate 2 novel. it was the drow preistess you worked for and later betrayed, the one who in the game invites the main char into her bed. in the novel she invites Imeon into her bed. |
| Lord Karsus04-27-06, 01:05 AM | yes indeed. in the baulder's gate 2 novel. it was the drow preistess you worked for and later betrayed, the one who in the game invites the main char into her bed. in the novel she invites Imeon into her bed. -See, I knew it was something like that. |
| Max the Immortal04-29-06, 12:06 AM | My understanding is that there isn't a taboo against homosexuality in Faerun, so calling Lolth a lesbian as an insult wouldn't make much sense. If you want to get a little controversial, you could use the term "darkie" as a slur against drow. It would really highlight the ugliness of the hatred that the faerie elves hold for the drow (and vice-versa). Just make sure that everyone in the gaming group is okay with that word being used in that context. |
| Yokinobu04-29-06, 01:17 AM | Spider-sucking, matronf___ing, mushroom eating, Rothe shagging, cave-grubbing, second-rate scheming filthy loser elves who after millenia of inbreeding and demon-orgies couldn't even sprout a decent spell-like ability or a better Con score, and are forever doomed to be self-obsessed posers with rubbish Eighties haircuts and an unending pile of angst? That's quite creative, although the second insult would likely be a compliment to any male drow, considering that such is part of the path to prestige and power for them. After all, the elves ended up as loosers ... and big time. Uh, how exactly? |
| Yunkel04-29-06, 01:47 AM | If your wish is to die with style by hands of a drow (of Menzoberranzan of course) you could also use: I love you, we are friends right?, Males shall rule one day (against priestess), I think you are kinda cute, I hate spiders, long live house Agrach Dyrr, I miss Drizzt Do'Urden, let's sleep!, who the hell's Lolth?, excuse me could you give me some directions please, its okay if I light a torch?. |
| BrianCritchley04-29-06, 02:18 AM | keep a bag of spiders with you and when you see a drow.. pick the spiders legs off! |
| Zanan04-29-06, 04:28 AM | Yokinobu Uh, how exactly? After the Descent of the Dark Elves, the surface elves ruled all over Faerūn. Look where they are now ... BrianCritchley keep a bag of spiders with you and when you see a drow.. pick the spiders legs off! Hm ... one wonders how these meetings with drow will go. "Heya, stop a while and wait for a sec." *gets bag out* "Will be ready shortly ..." *gets a spider out out and presents it to the drow* "... see! Its a spider, now look on, will ya?!" *begins to tear the legs out (an incurs the wrath of the Greenpeace member amongst the group (druids and all) or players) :D * ... while the drow looks on. |
| GothicDan04-29-06, 01:34 PM | In an ancient island filled with wonders unknown by the rest of Faerun, personally protected by all of the Seldarine and several great wyrm dragons; a sylvan paradise where they co-exist with pegasi, moon horses, centaurs, fairies, and griffons; where there is no thought of disease, old age, hunger, or filth; where even the most powerful assault led by Lolth and several other evil deities hardly even affected the vast majority of the populace; ruled by an endearing, incredibly powerful, compassionate, intelligent Queen.... Man, I'd hate to be the Elves... |
| BrianCritchley04-29-06, 02:55 PM | GD, the elves may live a fine life on evermeet but the point that the elves where until recently on the decline is valid. however it seems the elves are on the ascent once more. |
| Zanan04-29-06, 04:57 PM | GD, the elves may live a fine life on evermeet but the point that the elves where until recently on the decline is valid. however it seems the elves are on the ascent once more. ... thanks to some silly humans waking the Dlardrageth, who in turn wreaked a bit of havoc on the sacred isle and amongst the continental elves. Point is ... one would assume that the moon and sun elven realms post-Descent counted a few more million elves than those inhabiting Evermeet / Evereska et al these days. Not to speak of the vast amounts of land "lost" to humans in particular. |
| Alac Luin04-29-06, 05:19 PM | Yo mama's a Sun Elf. |
| Herobane04-29-06, 05:28 PM | Spider-sucking, matronf___ing, mushroom eating, Rothe shagging, cave-grubbing, second-rate scheming filthy loser elves who after millenia of inbreeding and demon-orgies couldn't even sprout a decent spell-like ability or a better Con score, and are forever doomed to be self-obsessed posers with rubbish Eighties haircuts and an unending pile of angst? Wow... Someone woke up with a drow you don't know on the other side of the bed this morning, didn't you? Personally, I won't contribute anything to this, because 65% of my characters are drow/halfdrow/driders, so... |
| Cli' San Aquanova04-29-06, 06:30 PM | How to insult a Drow "Giggity-giggity-giggity! All right!" :D -C'SA :u:Bring Back Merfolk!!!:u: |
| Delnyn04-29-06, 08:01 PM | Another Gnome described the best way to anger a drow. If you want to anger a matron mother (easy feat) is to use the "Scepter of the Sorceror Kings" to cut her off from Lloth (Menzoberranzan spelling) and baleful polymorph her into either a gold elf or a moon elf. I suggest that you cut her off from Lloth before turning her into another elf. |
| Mordakay of Thay04-29-06, 08:17 PM | The best insult to a drow:"Irinal".It means "forsaken".The elven word surface elves use the most for a drow. The drow hate it allot. And something to back this up.From the Erevis Cale trilogy book 1:Twilight Falling,"And you mind your tongue, irinal,"Cale spat into the half-drow's face.It meant "forsaken",and the drow were notorious for their dislike of the term..Btw didn't know how to make a black background for the spoiler so its white, just drive ur mouse over it ;P. |
| johnkretzer04-29-06, 09:22 PM | I would go with : You mother wears a apron. |
| Lord Karsus04-29-06, 10:54 PM | Yo mama's a Sun Elf. -Heh heh heh... |
| BrianCritchley04-29-06, 11:35 PM | "your mother was a prositute"? (to imply that a drow's mother was of such lowly services that she had to sell herself to males... well ;) ) |
| Zanan04-30-06, 04:29 AM | I would go with : You mother wears a apron. Reply: "Aye ... yet only when she sacrifices something like you to the Dark Mother." ;) |
| Jiggawha04-30-06, 09:28 AM | Sehanine bless you |
| baersark05-06-06, 11:13 AM | I'll pray to Corellon Larethian for you. |
| Lord Karsus05-06-06, 11:37 PM | I'll pray to Corellon Larethian for you. -That's nice of you... |
| GothicDan05-07-06, 12:09 AM | You should have used sunscreen. |
| Lord Karsus05-07-06, 12:15 AM | You should have used sunscreen. -That's subtle, and extremely funny... |
| GothicDan05-07-06, 12:23 AM | I thought so, at least. It plays off of their color, their aversion to light, the fact that their arch-nemesis tends to be the Ar-Tel'Quessir, and the fact that it had absolutely nothing specifically to do with sunlight (besides perhaps metaphysically). Though I could easily have seen the Banishing ritual performed as a massive curse of super-intense sunlight that "blackened" them and cursed them with great agony in the process. Mmmm. |
| JaiaDrottsingr05-07-06, 12:15 PM | Post in this thread. |
| Old Sparky05-07-06, 11:56 PM | How about giving them the finger? Their own finger, specifically... after you've cut it from their hand. :) |
| NightBreeze05-08-06, 08:18 AM | How about giving them the finger? Their own finger, specifically... after you've cut it from their hand. :) That's not a drow specific insult.... |
| Lord Karsus05-08-06, 09:20 AM | That's not a drow specific insult.... -It still gets the point across, however. |
| NightBreeze05-08-06, 12:56 PM | -It still gets the point across, however. Oh yeah, I don't argue on that :D |
| JaiaDrottsingr05-08-06, 04:30 PM | *Jaia cuts off all of OldSparky's fingers except his middle, then cuts off his fist, throwing it back to him* |
| Old Sparky05-08-06, 06:25 PM | *Jaia cuts off all of OldSparky's fingers except his middle, then cuts off his fist, throwing it back to him* Luckily, I keep my ring of regeneration on that finger! |
| JaiaDrottsingr05-09-06, 04:48 PM | He meant both fists. |
| Hippokrene05-14-06, 04:49 AM | It's not exactly hard to insult a Drow. In fact, it's harder to not insult a Drow than anything else. I remember the last time I shortened my friend's title The Most Glorious Mistress of Righteous Wrath to Miss Glory. There's nothing worse than starting your day by waking up on fire. |
| Herobane05-15-06, 08:28 PM | One of my supposed allies in the team decided that it was high time to ditch the drow so he read off this entire thread, then put a thumbnail on me while I was in Reverie and beat me into unconsciousness with a dead fish, then shoved said fish up my poor drow's wazoo. The reason for alll this: said character spent too much time near Gibberlings and they drove 'im mad. Oh well, he'll be rid of that once my Drow Swashbuckler allows the lon to meet his sabre, heh heh heh... |
