How would you roleplay a paladin of Hoar?
Isn't Hoar a diety of vengence and murder and other evil stuff like that?
Isn't that against all the goody goody stuff of a paladin?

Thanks.

Hoar's portfolios focus on concepts like retribution, revenge, and poetic justice.

Revenge may not be LG, but justice and retribution maybe

I think that cleric/vengence knight would be a far better class for a Hoar worshipper than a Paladin.

But if he embraces the 'poetic justice' aspect, it is do-able.

Although I really don't think a Paladin would touch a Hoar....

Not unless he performs a "lay" on hands

Me, I would see a Paladin of Hoar focusing on making sure the guilty get their just reward and that innocents aren't affect by someone else's retribution. Maybe even focus more on helping the victims get even.

They may also protect innocents from someone seeking revenge for a moral or physical defeat (ie: a sore loser gets back at the honest victor).

Apart from Hoar not having many paladins (not enough for a paladin order) I would maybe consider it an similar to the Tyr-sponsored orders in some ways. After all, Tyr is also the deity of justice, and hence retribution, which places him particularly close to Hoar's portfolio. Therefore, paladin of Hoar would probably be very dedicated to justice (if not law) and righting wrongs, sometimes to the point of crusading zeal, but also particularly sensitive to ironic circumstances. Among paladins, they might have a reputation of being slightly underhanded, sometimes a bit too eager to play with their enemies, and not very keen on forgiveness (something they may share with Helmites, and the main reason I might be opposed to Knights of the Three Thunders). I do not mean that they are likely to be mean, unforgiving badasses, just that they are likely to be stricter than, say, paladins of Lathander or sometimes less forthright than paladins of Helm or Torm.

In addition, given Hoar's interesting choice of deific allies and unforgiving attitude, Hoarites might be a little more tempted to resort to untraditional methods, and PrCs such as the Shadowbane Inquisitor or the Gray Guard :yuck: might be relatively popular among the few followers of that deity that have it in them to become paladins.

Off-topic:

I just noticed your sig Shaman, and I clicked on the girl-genius thing.

Very cool.

Reminds me of my beloved but short-lived FR/Old west campaign, set some 200 years into FRs future on the continent of Anchorome.

That pic is awesome - makes me want to run a campaign where Halrua goes all beligerant. :D
