How to speak with Alustriël? [Archive] - Wizards Community

Ok, i'm writing up a new campaign set in the Silver Marches, and i have arrived at a point where it would be necessary that the PC's have an audience with Alustriël Silverhand of Silverymoon.

Now, i was wondering how that would be done officially?

The PC's just need to go to the palace and ask there for an audience, and then wait until Alustriël or Taern Hornblade (the current High Mage of Silverymoon) have time to see them?

What if the PC's told the guards, or clerks or whoever handles audience requests, it is about a matter most dire and potentially threatening to the whole North?
Would the request be made with more haste then?

Thx for reply's :)

If the peril you are talking about involves some military force the pc's could also try to talk to the Knights in Silver or the Spellguard of Silverymoon. That gives them some more options to inform Silverymoon's ruling body. An other option is available but it depends on what the pc's know about chosen in general en Alustriel in particular, I'm talking about the name attunement ability. They could just cry out for her...and explain their problem in 9 words... Hope this makes for a good first reply, I'll wait what other people have to say, and will then reply again because this is a tread I would really like to follow, greets a Dutch DM

You know, the thought about contacting the spellgaurd etc. hadn't even crossed my mind yet :D
So, you have a very good point there

To clarify a bit:
I recon the Pc's will be around level 7 when they reach Silverymoon and most of them have their origin in simple backwater towns or the wilds, so they won't know a lot (or even nothing) about the name attunement etc.

Maybe they will know of the Chosens and who some of them are, but definetely nothing about the name attunement, now that i think about it...

(Outgame i want them to start with as little ingame knowledge as possible, so that I (as DM) can tweak the realms a bit ;) )

The danger i was talking about, is some infernal portal -that the player characters will have stumbled upon, confronted and hopefully buried under a couple of dozen tons of rock- that will be in danger of spreading its influence and release hordes of demons upon the unsuspecting North (specifically the High Forest and regions - Tyr knows, there aren't enough demons there already :schemes: ).

Nevertheless, i want some realism in the game about how to contact the ruling body in Silverymoon and I certainly don't want the players to think that every major NPC will jump to their command if they ask it :)
Therefore I would like to implement some "realistic court rules" ...

I hope this makes things a bit clearer.

Btw, leuk om je te ontmoeten, Falkomur :)

First, you go to the High Palace. That's where Alustriel and her court lives. Then you ask for an audience, approaching perhaps one of the guards first, who can then direct you to one of the servants who deal with the day-to-day affairs of the Palace. Then you'll probably be escorted to someone who organizes the audiences and she/he will tell you when it's possible. When the date is set, you come to the High Palace on the agreed day and see Alustriel. She's a nice lady, don't worry about it.

Thats how I run it, with about a week waiting line and you get an hour with Alustriel. I tend to consider her one of the most easy to reach of the seven. Trying to talk with the simbul is nearly impossible unless you got like a zulkir prisoner or something.

What you could have happen, is when they are talking to the steward outside, if they say her name she hears them. If in the next nine words they mention the danger, it may increase the chance of an earlier audience. Another thing that could happen, is when they are speaking with the steward, you could have Talyn (described in The Silver Marches book I think, he is described on the Wizards site, I'll try to find the link after I take my kids to school) just happen to be walking past, and listens to them and takes them to see her if he thinks that it really is important.

In the campaign I am running, Alustriel actually asked for an audience with the PC. He is a fairly powerful mage (Wiz5/Lore8) who is new to FR, so she wanted to find out what his plans were, and make sure he wasn't a threat to The Silver Marches. :)

Hope that helps or gives you some ideas.

What you could do to handle the problem of your pc's getting all the powerfull help they need is create a link between them and the helper, or even what the help would consist off. What I would do (having Lost Empires of Faerun, a real must have!) is letting one of the pc's meet/see/walk-into an old friend of him when first entering Silverymoon. (The friend should preferably be an elf or half-elf) After some chatting about how life went since they parted it's time to talk about more recent events. The friend is an apprentice Olin Gisea, which is an prestige class which could best be described as an elven loremaster. He/She is currently busy aquiring information about portals in the North (After just gaining acces to the third lvl spell Analyze Portal off course, which would make him/her about a 7th lvl wizard ;) ) And then she tells them about the plan to travel to .....(your portal area) to search for the lost portal. Hopefully the pc's tell him/her they were recently there and experienced a cave-in/earthquake. If that is so, the friend tells them he MUST tell his master about the GRAND evil which lays before them all. Off course this master is an old elf/half-elf and friend of Alustriel... I think you can fill in your own blanks from here, if not I'll post my ideas next time.

B.T.W. Ook leuk om jou te ontmoeten, lukt de campaign een beetje?

I still remember how my monk met Alustriel. His party went to Silverymoon on business and asked for an audience. Getting the typical bureacratic red tape circles, they camped at an inn for the night, waiting for their audience. My monk went out for a walk that night and ran into the strangest lady with long silver hair, who engaged him in casual philosophical conversation and eventually worked him until he felt comfortable enough to talk to her. Being Shou, he wasn't familiar enough with the realms to have the slightest idea who he was talking to! The party never did get their audience, but thought that Alustriel must be powerful indeed to know what was going on...

I would go to her palace and very politely as to see the High Lady, then have your players explain that they stumble across a portal with a army of fiends waiting to come through. That will get somebodies attentation and probably shave a few days of the waiting list to see Alustriel.

Well, even after clearing security and getting an appointment, you and your party may have to deal with the epic task of speaking to Alustriel while she is in her 'Royal Bath' Chambers... Tehehe... :D

Just out of curiosity, how do you set up that cave so that your players can cause a cave-in? Pillars in key position? Do they have appropriate spells?

Well, i'm gonna call for some spot checks to see that the walls of the cavern will be rather unstable and with some strength checks and/or spells they will be able to cause a cave-in.

The fight against the outpouring demons will be so overpowering for the PC adventuring group, that i hope they will consider other possibilities than just meet the demons head-on. :D

Alas, before they will reach the portal cavern, the group will have been fighting/talking their way through a tribe of Orcs, dwelling in the above lying caverns, and who will be contaminated by the fiendish energies, released by the portal.
To get through that tribe, the party will have been in need of some serious good diplomacy and not just hack and slash tactics; so I hope this will set them on the right course of thinking for the "final" confrontation with the portal... :plotting:

Ah, a DM can only hope :D

Btw, excuse me for eventual incorrect language in the above. I find the future past tense (or something like that) very difficult to write in

I find that prospect very amusing indeed. :D

Especially because of the fact that two of the partymembers will be rather fools for beautiful women as those two will play "a woman loving bard" and a "Don Juan-style duelist"...

Its a very good idea, thanks :)

I'm actually refering to Ed's thoughts on Alustriel in regards to her love life...

... Damned if I can't remeber where I read it though...
