| Axegrrl07-26-05, 10:48 PM | I've never actually gamed in FR before, so I'm wondering just how odd this party is going to seem to people as we wander around in various places.... Female human scout/swashbuckler, an ex-caravan scout, from Sembia. Male tiefling wu jen from Kara-Tur. He's researching whether or not the world is round. Male ghaele. His memory has been tampered with. Male astral deva. His memory has also been tampered with. Male rakshasa (some variant sub-race) who is an aspiring actor. We're using Savage Species rules for the last three. Party alignment is predominantly CG, with the CN wu jen, and the rakshasa's alignment is unknown but not evil. We're starting in the Silverymoon area. (They had the rakshasa go through the evil-detecting gate a half-dozen times. Then they called for the on-duty cleric w/ detect evil memorized. Then they called for the cleric's boss.... the rakshasa did finally get in, after an hour or so.) What kind of reaction should we be expecting to a party with this sort of mixed racial composition? |

| Alac Luin07-26-05, 11:33 PM | It depends on how "different" the Tiefling, ghaele, and astral deva look. All would likely have an "otherworldly" look to them, and would likely be treated with suspicion, as would be most anyone with an unknown source and purpose of power. The rakshasa will have a hard time though. Many places are still “humans only” and a tiger person may have some hard times in a few areas, like Sembia, Luskan, and Hillsfar. I'm picking on the rakshasa, as I'm assuming most of the others can appear mostly human. Now, a sembian scout may not receive a warm welcome in a few areas, specifically the Dalelands. I've seen stranger parties on these boards. IMO, it really depends on how human they look. |

Bah, that's nothing. Try going with a CG Half Celestial Drow, a CE Half Fiend Half-drow, a NE elf shade with rogue, monk, and shadow-dancer levels, a CN half dragon (thanks to 10 levels of dragon disciple) half elemental elf, and a human mage named Bob. :) Seriously, though, so far as your party, yeah, you'll probably have people being thoroughly amazed at the people in your party, unless they make an effort to disguise their otherworldly features. It's not often you see such groups adventuring on the Prime Material plane. Of course, no one would so much as bat an eye in a place like Sigil. But on Faerun? Yeesh. For a party that weird, you might consider adopting the outcast rating system featured in the Ravenloft setting. |
| Scyld07-28-05, 10:32 PM | IMO, it really depends on how human they look. Well, the Astral Deva looks like a FRICKIN' ANGEL. Humanlike, with long, feathery wings, and a body that glows with an inner celestial light that makes it hard to look at, etc. He'd need to spend a whole lot of time in an alternate form (he does have 'polymorph self' as a spell-like ability, though I don't know what level he gets it at). Of course, polymorph also means you gain the physical attributes of the new form until the spell wears off (you retain your mental ones), and that would probably mean a significant degradation of your physical attributes while disguised. The Ghaele Eladrin might be able to pass itself off as an elf, though the pearly, palescent eyes and radiant aura would also tend to give it away, unless used its 'disguise self' spell-like ability (no idea what level he gets that). |
| Grem of Surkh07-29-05, 11:41 AM | i think every body needs to step back... just becuase the rules allow you to do something, does not mean the dm should allow it. or the world would allow it i do not care how many times he passed through the "evil detector" a rakasha would not be let in the city....it says in their discription that they are all evil, it would be like a succubus paladin... foolishness.... |
| Scyld07-30-05, 05:18 AM | 'Detect Evil' is the second most annoying thing ever. The alignment system is the first most annoying thing ever. >_< But then, I suppose now is not the time to start ranting on that. |
