Humor in Faerun [Archive] - Wizards Community

02-28-06, 07:30 AM Humor is an important part of the game, in the sense that everyone playing has to enjoy it. So my idea was to start a thread with funny little things we all encounter during play in the Forgotten Realms.

As a first I want you to tell about a drow bard, who kept singing:

"I come from a land down under, were buildings glow, and man plunder" ;)

Anyone care to share their Faerunian humor?

I currently play a Half-Drow Bard (who would have been full Drow, but they weren't allowed; he works just as well if not better) in an online game. He uses humour and foolishness and one heck of a diplomacy skill to talk his way out of trouble.

Upon entering Loudwater, he was asked for name and town of origin. I made up a silly backwater town name right off the top of my head: Duckhaven.

"I guess that makes me a duck elf, huh?"

Well, I thought it was funny, and so did the guard. :D

During a round of play, the party's cleric of Lathander attempt to turn a group of skeletons with this immortal line: "DIE!"

Needless to say, the turn attempt failed and the skeletons proceeded to tear holes in the cleric's robes.

In more recent events, our gnome wizard (Played by the same player as the cleric--the cleric perished) has time and again thrown out several one-liners, the favorite being:

"You know, I've never seen an invisible wall. But then again, you wouldn't."

Q. What do you call a human archmagi?

A. Dont be silly.

Q. Whats good about halfelves?

A. At least they have half a brain.

(A human joke)

Theres a moonelf bard, a sunelf wizard, and a human at a mage fair.
They hear about a magic mirror over at one of the tents.
If you say something true into it then you will be greatly rewarded, but if it's not true then you will be sucked into the plane of mirrors forever.

The moonelf bard goes into the tent and says to the mirror:
"I think I have the best singing voice and acting skills at the fair!" and POOF! the keys to a brand new theatre house in Evermeet fall into his hands.

The sunelf goes into the tent and says:
"I think I have the cleverest familiar at the fair." and POOF! a staff of the magi falls into his hands.

Then the human walks in and says, "I think.." and POOF! he was sucked
into the plane of mirrors forever.

03-19-06, 02:53 PM As a DM, one of my favorite things I do to add a little humor to the game, is to have the PCs always coming across parodies of popular culture.

For example, in one of my campaigns the PCs came across 'Dar of Imur' (straight out of the Beastmaster movies). He joined their party as an NPC, and despite his respectable combat prowess, spent most of his time putting the moves on the chicks, eating everyones food, and spending the first round of every fight just swinging his sword around in a ridiculous display of, whatever... Needless to say, Dar eventually went his own way, but the players still remember, and laugh about Dar of Imur.

Other ideas I have used are books with parodied titles - "Alchemy for the Feebleminded", a guardroom full of orcs sitting around a table playing a popular dicegame called "Gulags and Goblins", the Scooby Doo gang converted to a rival NPC party (like zoiks, Shag makes a wicked 9th-level ranger), a brush with a drunken, out-of-work, red robed Dungeon Master (it makes a great PRC for NPCs), and of course who could forget old Peter of the North!

Point is that my players always seem to enjoy running into something fun and familiar, so I do my best to sprinkle it in once in a while.

03-19-06, 10:37 PM Our party's bard insists on pulling out his hand puppets at in appropriate moments - and this was before I introduced him to Order of the Stick. Now he wants people to worship the hand puppets too...
