Hunter's Blades: When did it happen? [Archive] - Wizards Community

I've been a DM for quite some time now for the forgotten realms and for one reason or another I have had little to no reason to add any FR iconic characters at all (Well minus Storm... who oddly always shows up). However as of late I have finished "The Hunter's Blades Trilogy" and thought that it would be neat to have the PC's be part of the fighting above Keeper's Dale and eventually that of Mithral Hall... during which they would meet Bruenor, Cattie-Brie and the band; but for the life of me I cannot find what year this all takes place... I have heard 1370 DR up to current.

Any help would be appreciated.

03-10-06, 05:07 PM Well, first I would try and edit your title so this doesn't get misconstrued as a novel discussion.

Well, Salvatore is deliberately vague on dates, and has said that he keeps his books a few years behind the current Realms timeline.

The closest approximation I've come up with was to figure from Siege of Darkness, which had Lolth in Menzoberranzan during the time of troubles. That's about the only specific year that can be figured out, as far as I can tell. Add six years from then to Passage to Dawn, then MAYBE two more to the end of The Two Swords, and you end up somewhere around 1366 DR; eight or nine years prior to the current date.

There's nothing specific, so you can pretty much set it when you want.

This is, to my knowledge mebe as close as it comes to the proper timeline. However it is still a bit sketchy about the exact year detailed in these books. Any further ideas would still be appreciated.

03-10-06, 09:34 PM Don't know when that was written but it seems pretty divergent from the story in the books. Might want to choose one or the other and run with it. Among other things, isn't Urlgen dead according to the books?

I just checked again, and it came out before The Two Swords, so I'd say that link is more what's happened in the game world... though it could be reconciled with the novels if you set the events of the books a little prior to 1367, when the other orc horde came down out of the moutains and displaced him from Dark Arrow Keep. After the battle with Drizzt he would have retreated to the citadel and recovered, and consolidated his power again. Then 1367 rolled around and he was driven out, and the rest of it plays out as the link describes.

03-11-06, 05:12 PM There is a short story in the realms of elves that just came out about Drizzt that salvatore wrote, and at the start of the page it has a date 1371. So at the start of that short story its 1371 and the sory takes place right after the trilogy ends. Hope that helps.

has extensive chronologies of the Realms. They place The Hunter's Blades trilogy late in 1370. This would neatly align with the story in Realms of the Elves taking place soon after in 1371 (early in the year I guess).

03-18-06, 06:15 PM Because RA Salvatore and TSR had a falling out the Drizzt novels have remained behind the curve of the timeline. He hasn't time jumped and continues to leave the end of each trilogy with cliffhangers that prevent time jumps.

So don't let the events of Hunter's Blades and the Silver Marches supplements confuse you. They were suppose to be detailing the same event, but they didn't. The left hand just didn't know what the right hand was doing.
