Husbands of Alustriel [Archive] - Wizards Community

12-26-03, 07:57 AM I read she has had children over time, but what about her husbands? Or were they all born out of wedlock? Are all of her offspring still alive? (DR 1372)

Looking for reference material.

To my knowledge, Alustriel has never been married.

One of her sons, Methrammar Aerasumé, is a commander in the Ardent Legion.

I played a game called Neverwinter Nights (http://nwn.bioware.com/), and I decided I wanted to continue the story where that game fell off at the end with a written epilogue. During the game, I decided my character wrote a journal, a haphazard log and brief heartfelt sentiments Tarric Senden (http://www.speakeasy.org/~cdrradar/nwnjournal/) wrote. What was originally intended to be a brief epilogue turned into a mini-novel, and one of the things I tried to avoid doing was "stepping on toes", or contradicting previously published books/campaign settings/other material.

Now, just because Alustriel has an established significant other doesn't mean she didn't have lovers or other such affairs. (Cassil and Nararoot can prevent embarrassing side effects of engaging in such mind you.) Would this be out of character?

I suppose my great question is, did I screw up too much? :eek:

12-28-03, 08:36 AM Not really. Alustriel (and all the Seven Sisters, practically), when portrayed by Ed Greenwood, flirts with any number of males. Sometimes kissing/cuddling strangers out of the blue. So no, probably not too OOC.

Well, kissing/cuddling might be one thing. Waking up in in another man's bed, uhh, you tell me. However, one important thing has been made clear - she never had a formal husband. Now, being the ruler of the Silver Marches, it's just going to get lonelier. . .

Regrettably, I haven't read any of Ed Greenwood's books, so I don't know firsthand. Alassra is the only one I know who has a dedicated lover, and that's in the FRCS. (Mess with that, and Elminster kills you, he was being kind.)

Storm did/does. Lhaeo was until he went back to Tethyr and her first lover was Maxer/Maxan. The different spelling is because in the grey box it's different that what is in Stormlight which is when he returned to her even though it's never been mentioned since.

12-30-03, 02:57 PM she cuddles strangers? i never realized that alustriel was so...uhm...friendly. i dont know too much about her personality except the chosen aspect and what ive read about her in the drizzt books, and in those i dont remember her showing any affection to drizzt. they seemed to be respetful friends.

I know I read this somewhere. Plus one of her sons is a high ranking member of the Moonstars directly under the commands of Khelben. That' from Cloak & Dagger. 2ED

That's because Salvatore was the writer, not Ed Greenwood. You should try reading Silverfall: Stories of the Seven Sisters. Alustriel was kissing a merchant (read: pretty much a stranger), and was offering to bestow her affections on Taern Somethingspell (can't remember his last name, sorry. Thunderspell? But that's the nickname...). 'Cause, just about every male that comes near her is reduced into little puddles of hormones. Except, of course, the evil ones.

The message? If you're good, you have to love and worship the Seven Sisters. If you do less than drool over the ground they walk on (see the Luskanite in Alustriel's story), then you are clearly evil!11!!oneone!

Ahem. Sorry. Off-topic a bit. I'll go rant about the Seven Sisters elsewhere.

With no disrespect intended for Mr. Greenwood, that is something he does with a lot of his characters, not just the Sisters: make them be a lusty bunch. Considering how lusty his characters can be, it's a wonder the Realms aren't more heavily populated!

:D Well, that's what nararoot is for.

I noted that the 12 Brothers were born 1240 and on, and Alustriel was born in 762, IIRC. Probably not a terrible stretch to presume she had husbands and other children before then, but I dunno.

I decided to leave it well enough alone, and resolve the situation slightly differently in what I've written. I was just wondering if she had experience with marrying other men, and outliving them and their children, so she can speak from experience.

What I was really worrying about was whether her having a prior fling with Nasher, and their subsequent catching up on old times, was out of character/in conflict.

i agree with you. some of his works can be disturbing at times. maybe his favorite goddess is sune?

No he just doesn't have western morals about sex or relationships. His characters in his other nonFR books, both male and female are the same way.

There's a few great posts during the month of October about this on the mailing list. I admit I got them started since we were having that debate here on the boards at that time about the Seven Sisters and Elminster.
