| floaterbo08-05-05, 11:12 PM | I am writing a FR novel, and im wondering, what area of the Anauroch desert is most likely to be settled by an orc tribe? Actually, It's quite important, so if anyone can help me, that'd be great. |
| Kuje3108-05-05, 11:41 PM | The Elminster's Ecologies box set, for Anauroch, says they live in the Underdark of Anauroch and they have all but disappeared from the surface of that desert. |
| floaterbo08-05-05, 11:46 PM | Where did they all go? And is it likely that there are any surviving on the surface, if so where would they be? Otherwise, i have to rewrite the whole damn thing |

Otherwise, i have to rewrite the whole damn thing I quoted you what it says. They live underground under Anauroch and no, they have all but disappeared from the surface of the desert. |

| floaterbo08-07-05, 12:10 AM | would Saint Cuthbert be plausible if I wanted to get the story published, or would that be too much of a stetch? I'm relatively new to the whole world, and I'm unsure how wise such a move would be. |

| Brenigin08-07-05, 04:13 AM | Hi there, First, if you're writing the story for yourself, I'd say do whatever you like. However, if you are determined to pursue publishing it, I suggest you take a look here (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=books/main/resources). While we all love the Forgotten Realms, it's WotC's playground, and fiction writers have to play by their rules if they want to be published. In your case, using St Cuthbert would be a big no-no. As for the orcs, in the Realms orcs don't tend to be desert dwellers, and no preceding Realms material shows them as such. What if you changed your tribe to hobgoblins, of Asabis? Writing in a shared world, even if it frustrates you, means working with what's gone before. So don't get disheartened, keep writing, but work on making your story fit the Forgotten Realms in a way that meshes with the huge amount already written. Good luck! |

Actually there is canon lore that says there are orcs in the desert but they went to the Underdark because well it's a desert and it's hot and it's sunny, etc. :) But I echo your statement: If he's writing for himself, then he can do what he wants but if he wants to get published then it's good to do research and the like. Hell's I'm writing a story for Candlekeep and I even did my research. I better or, after all these years of complaining, someone would ream me for making errors. :) |
