| Jerve Wayward09-22-03, 11:00 AM | I'm currently thinking about starting up a theif like campain in the forgotten realms setting. I have three pc's lined up to play, and I would like them to be totally dependant on finding thier own quests and what not, And to roleplay a lot. If you guys got any tips for me it would be a great help. Thanks |

If they are just wandering about, the Story hooks portion at the end of every place description in the FR book should give you some ideas. Just read over the ones under the place where they are and work a story out of it. |

They took a route, I rolled for random encounters and either created one on the fly, or grabbed one of my one sheet wonders out of my encounter folder. I made quick encounters, like a half fiend halfling thief and his humanoid bandits. It was one of those encounters that could occur on any road anywhere. One unique creature you suplamented with ogres, orcs, gnolls, and goblins to match the parties size and challenge rating. |

They will have to find many ways to gain money, and they will not go very far away from your city, so it'll be easier to you. I found in internet a campaign where the PCs had a thieves guild in Ordulin I think, make a search with those term, you should find something useful. |

I started a game that I thought was going to be an all thief game, too, but the party just wanted a regular game :) What could I do? I picked the city of Tantras. I liked that there was a strong element of law to fight against. I also liked that there are a lot of temples there to steal from and get involved in politics of the area. Also, the nobles get their hands dirty involved with trade and whatnot. Add in the Cult of the Dragon, and the Greyclaws (local guild) has their hands full! I really say that if you plan your city well enough, then the story will come together. I did purchase City Works (http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/dd42.html) from Legends and Lairs and found it a great resource for planning my city. If you follow their advice on creating the trade and industries in the city, then a lot of the rest comes together. Follow the money and you get some intrigue. |

For example if they want to loot Myth Drannor or Infiltrate Waterdeep nobility they let you know at the end of the session so you have stuff prepared for next time. Its only fair, you can't be expected to know who runs Silverymoon down to the townguards without being forewarned. |
