| Paladin_of_the_Phoenix09-22-03, 06:28 AM | I made a BBEG for my campaign but I can't figure out what the CR would be. Some help would be appriciated. Syscis Male Yan-ti/Tiefling Sor6/Rog2/Sha2: CR ??; Medium-size Outsider; 8d4 plus 2d6; Hp 29; Init +6; Spd 30 ft.; AC 19; Atk +11 (1d6+2 Rapier +2); SA Sneak attack 1d6; Special Qual/Abil: Natural Armor +1, Shadow Defence +1, Low Light vision; AL CE; SV Fort 3, Ref 12, Wil 7; Str 18, Dex 22, Con 11, Int 18, Wis 13, Cha 14; Feats: Fiendish Bloodline(RoF), Planetouched Animal Affinity(Snakes)(Rof), Evasion(PHB), Summon Familiar(PHB), Combat casting, Spell focus(Evoc), Lightning reflexes, Weapon finesse(Rapier) Posesions: Ring of Protection +3, Wand of Magic Missiles(50 chgs), Potion of Gaseous form, Headband of Intelect, Scroll of greater mage hand, Scroll of spider poison, PLUS another item i made myself the summons 1d4+1 HD of Undead 1/tenday. |
| wanderingminstrelnasheen09-23-03, 03:08 PM | His normal CR would be twelve: 6 for Sor, 2 for Rog, 2 for Sha= 10 Now, he is half tiefling and half yaun-ti, each of these have a +1 level adjustment (I'm pretty sure about Yaun-ti, but not positive, it might be lvl. adj. 2). Now that puts the CR up by 2 (1 for tiefling 1 for Yaun-ti). Of course there are variables! Depending on what powers he kept from his races, it might just be a +1 lvl. adj., or maybe even +3. Also, he has magical items, so that might change it, but you could choose to withhold XP b/c your players get said magical items when they ice this badie. Over all, I'd say his CR would be 13, but I am going on limited knowledge. |

CR 9 wold have 1d4 minor magic items... Well depending on the Yuan-ti if it is pure-, half-bloded, or an abomination, it has a LA of +5/+5/+7... so adding thiefling we are at +5 to +8 (depending on abilities..) and 10 classlevels.. hmmm.. totalling around 15-18 - yet he should get the base hd for Yuan-ti (6d8/7d8/9d8) But given he doesn't have the base hd for the Yuan-Ti, hyou might want to count class levels against them, placing him at CR 8-9... |
| wanderingminstrelnasheen09-23-03, 04:57 PM | Yeah, I figured b/c he was only half yaun-ti, it wouldn't have the base monster levels. I'm not sure how that works, I don't have the books in front of me. |
| Ivy09-23-03, 09:35 PM | Looking at the stats you posted, I can't tell how you created this character. What is the base creature that you used? Is it yuan-ti halfblood? If so, by "yuan-ti/tiefling" do you mean fiendish yuan-ti halfblood or half-fiend yuanti halfblood? Either way, there should be a number of racial Hit Dice. For example, if it was a fiendish yuan-ti halfblood Sor6/Rog2/Sha2, it's CR would calculate as follows: Yuan-ti half-blood: 5 (base CR) Fiendish template: +1 Sor6: +6 Rog2: +2 Sha2: +2 Total CR 16 |
| wanderingminstrelnasheen09-23-03, 10:45 PM | That's the thing. He is describing it is a half-yaun-ti, half tiefling. What I assume is the offspring of a trist between a tiefling (person with demonic heretige) and a yaun-ti (it is unspecified which type). Is Halfblood a template you add to a base creature? I don't know a great deal about Yaun-ti, and I don't have my books with me. What we know is it has AT LEAST a CR 11 from character levels and being a tiefling Lvl. Adj. +1. It can only go up from there. |

Yeah, but level adjustment doesn't apply to CR, even though class levels (except for NPC class levels) do apply on a 1:1 basis to CR. I suspect Paladin didn't really start with a base creature to build this character. What we need to know is the base creature he intends this character to be (probably one of the three types of yuan-ti), and what template would need to be applied to it to give the demonic half of its heritage (probably either fiendish or half-fiend). Once we know that, the character could be rebuilt and the CR added up. |
| Kerrexl09-24-03, 09:54 AM | to make a little rebuild of the BBEG: Syscis Male Half-fiendish Pureblooded Yuan-ti Sor6/Rog2/Sha2; CR 17; Medium-size Outsider; HD 6d8+ 8d4 + 2d6; Hp 73; Init +3 (+3 dex); Spd 30 ft. (50% chance of fly 30ft average); AC 15 (+2 NA, +3 dex); Atk +10/+5 (BAB: 8/3) (1d6+2 Rapier); SA Sneak attack 1d6; Yuan-ti Spell-like abilities, Yuan-Ti Psionics, Half-fiendish Special attacks (to and incl. Summon monster IX (fiends only)); Special Qual/Abil: Natural Armor +2, Shadow Defence +1, Darkvision 60, Immune to poison, fire/acid/cold/electricity resistance 20; AL CE; SV Fort 3, Ref 8, Wil 9; Abilities Str 15, Dex 17, Con 13, Int 22, Wis 18, Cha 18; Note thiss is with default 11, 11, 11, 10, 10, 10 array for stats, and the classes not incl. in attack, and saves, and no feats incl. no stat advancements for the 10 classlevels (+3 total points), no magic gear. though the CR wouldn't change for that... just add bab, base saves, any feats and magic gear (up to the value of 77.000 gp) and perhaps modify the stats for another array... (like point buy or rolled) |
| Paladin_of_the_Phoenix09-24-03, 12:24 PM | What if the parents of said BBEG were a Tiefling(Demon+Human) and a Yan-ti half blood? |
| Ivy09-24-03, 12:41 PM | Originally posted by Paladin_of_the_Phoenix What if the parents of said BBEG were a Tiefling(Demon+Human) and a Yan-ti half blood? Then you could make it a yuan-ti halfblood with the fiendish template. |
| Kerrexl09-24-03, 02:23 PM | Originally posted by Ivy Then you could make it a yuan-ti halfblood with the fiendish template. It would be half-fiendish.... fiendish is for whole fiends Only... Actually the "product" of a Kyton and a Pit Fiend would be either a half-fiendish Kyton or a half-fiendish Pit Fiend... whereas any animal life in the lowerplanes would be fiendish "normal" animals... I cant really formulate myself now... but hope you can understand me... otherwise, ask and I shall try and refraise.. |
| Ivy09-24-03, 05:42 PM | Originally posted by Kerrexl It would be half-fiendish.... fiendish is for whole fiends Only... Actually, "fiendish" is for creatures from the Lower Planes. But since it is a less powerful template than "half-fiend," it's good to use to represent creatures that are less than one-half fiend, but more than tiefling. |
