If I won the lotto, I'd be playing when I'm not traveling. :P And I'd pay my gaming group to play. :dancin:

-People go there looking to find DMs/players/games, whereas people don't come here looking for those. Here in the FR section, it's generally the same cast of faces all the time. What are the odds that someone just happens to be from Mankato? They are greater over at the RPG Classified area than here.

It took me about 2 years to find people I could D&D with, even then, they wern't FR people and if I even think about playing in a great FR campaign I will have to be the one that DMs.

Yeah, its hard. Still, there is another option. You could always play with your old group over IM.

Wow, sounds like I'll be driving an hour and half for role playing needs.

I used to drive for 45 mins - an hour to game. Once a week is not so bad, so long as you can afford the gas.

It was indeed for the time it lasted.

Sadly the DM moved away for work, leaving me for a time without game. He was one of the best I have gamed with, it was a shame to lose him, though better done early on, than later in an elaborate story.

Only one other story has rivaled the one he began, and that one ended with player infighting over characters actions, so the comparrison is hard to maintain.

-I, too, have a story very similar to yours. I feel your pain...:(

Is it just me, or is there a "sad violin music" vibe going on right now?

Actually, I hear piano. But yes, I haven't played with a group for some 2 years now, and I am getting a bit lonely.

-I haven't played (I have DMed a little, though) for at least a year, as well...

Hehe, I went to college at Mankato State University. I live about an hour down the road in a town called Albert Lea. Unfortunately my group can only get together about every other month or so (Work, kids, and such makes it hard).

Are you attending college there?

I have had to resort to DMing if I want the game to go on. I wish I could just play happily again. *Joins in with some other equally obnoxiously sad tune*

No I'm not going to college here, just working right now. So your out of Albert Lea? I used to live in Austin my old group play at least every other week in Hayward. Practically next door to you.

Cool, well I hope you have some luck over there with finding a group. If you have the time I'd cruise campus and check for any postings for people wanting to game or looking for more. I know there used to posts there quite often when I was attending.

I haven't played face-to-face D&D in years. OpenRPG is where it's at. A group of us run the Forgotten Realms Campaigns server, and we pretty much play in each other's games. Playing over Open also has (among tons of others) one very cool advantage: During the rest of the week, you can play-by-post non-combat stuff on a forum. It really helps the roleplaying when you have ten minutes to think of how to type up what your character does in the delicate situation.

Plus, you can check the forum in-character thread as many times a day as you want.

Forum RP alone is where I tend to keep most of my time focused. It allows for heavy RP, with minimal sidetracking, unfortunate/ lucky rolls, and allows you to experience a more novel esq story, than PnP can usually give you.

-Hmm, I am going to go check that out.Stop by our server and say hello. If you have time to run a game, that would be great actually. We're short on DMs. About three times as many players as there ought to be (so roughly 15-20 potential players per DM).

Play-by-post without a weekly live game to go along with it makes my eyes bleed. Each battle takes two weeks.

-Actually, I downloaded the program(s)- it looks like fun. I logged on when I downloaded it this morning, and there was like 1 person in the Realms area. Once I get the hang of how to use the interface, I'll start activley logging in.
