Hi,
i'm thinking to start an evil setting with the PCs as members of a noble house of Menzoberranzan.
I do have a great problem though with the different ranks of the PCs,(Secondboy trying to kill the Elderboy for his position, etc..), which is an obvious problem thinking the evil alignment...

I really want the PCs to be on the same House for the united reactions against political and military attacks.

One great idea, was that 2 of them were twins and so equal in the noble House, but i thought that in the Drow society the Elder would be the one who was born first (counted by seconds..)

Thnks for your help :)

We ran a Drow House Campaign back in 2nd ed.
We were House Xohactyl from the ruined city of Jachlyn.
We were the number 1 house of Jachlyn, but when it fell in battle
we were able to flee to Menzo where we had a merchant outpost.
There the Houses of Menzo allowed the Houses of Jachlyn to live in Menzo for the time being.
Of course it took a few dirtydeals and assassinations, but thats the way of the drow...

We all had multiple characters and never had big conflicts with each other. Except I was the Matron-Mother Neozizalt who learned her Psionics from the Mind Flayers. She probably was the "oldest" drow, since she used the power to switch bodies permantly when a daughter would come to take power.
Quite the view of the daughter seeing her own self killing her.

But I think you shouldn't worry too much about keeping ranks equal. If its a problem then have no one be of the high ranks. That way you can control missions/payment/story using the higher ranked NPCs, and who knows perhaps the PCs will plan to take power for themselves... like I said its the way of the drow.

Your PCs should always feel uncomfortable and never trust anyone even the other PCs...

It will be hard work for a DM to make sure everyone is playing friendly enough, but the drow campaign is by far my favorite we ran, thats why Id like to try it again in 3rd ed.

Good luck.

The way I did it with my game, is all the PCs are minor nobles of their house, i.e. they have no rank in the house. As to who was in charge, the PCs all deferred to the Priestess, of which there was just one. Though they only listened to her, if they could hear her.

Thnx guys

If i can't find a way to make the PCs, ranking nobles of the House, without many problems i mean, i'll try the ideas.

Thnx a lot :)

In my Underdark campaign, none of the characters had any noble rank. They were either commoners or minor members of their houses. Getting adopted or promoted was one of their goals. This means that they don't have a lot of resources, are eager to prove themselves, and I can give them quests if I need to.

Although I hate to say this (*), you might want to buy the latest Goodman Games Dungeon Crawl Classics release, Mysteries of the Drow.

It is an adventure written for drow characters that you might be able to steal some ideas from.

(*) I hate to say this because I find that Goodman Games is, consistently, one of the worst D20 publishers and yet they seem to have such strong support. What most call errors (you know, like forgetting to change a creature's stats from 3E to 3.5E in a 3.5E product or creating a dozen different new saving throw progressions [Adventurer's Guide to the Underdark[), they call "innovative". Utter garbage, in the main, but there are a few things that can be salvaged in Mysteries of the Drow.

Best Third Party Drow book I have found is Plot & Poison by Green Ronin.

I snagged several things from that book to add to my campaign.

Here am I recommending a mediocre product from a mediocre publisher and I neglect to mention Plot & Poison by Green Ronin... I feel ashamed.

I'll second that recommendation for P&P.

I would also strongly recommend the drow articles in Dragon 298. One deals with other tests of Lolth, not just the one at 6th level that can result a drow being transformed into a drider, rather there is a series of tests and perhaps being a drider is the kindest transformation of all. Anyway, even if you don't use the variant monsters, the article could really help flesh out an all-drow campaign.

Sends Derulbaskul off to be tested :smirk:

Aye, the Drow Articles are pretty good. Only reason I didn't mention them, is it seems to be really hard to get any old issues of Dragon.

Wow! Great guys, Plot and Posion really helped! I've already found many ideas from the book that could help me with this.

Although i could not find Dragon 298, well that's ok.

You helped me lot! thnx again for your time and ideas ;)
