| Evil O03-12-04, 04:13 AM | My group might, and I mean might they seem to never follow my ideas much, go on a ship from Suzail to the southern shores. Maybe to Hlath or further east. But the issue of this thread it not the shores but the water, and more specially the inhabitants. Witch monsters, weather and other can they encounter? The avg. level is 9 going strong on 10! The story, so far, is the get a fugitive back to Suzail, and transport back is most likely to be by Teleport. The reason they dont use spells to get there, is they have not much idea of where she is. I thought of Waterdragonkin, Waternaga, and of course the lame Troglodytes(I hate them so I will Not use them!!) I thougt of 2 weeks travel, 2 maybe 3 encounters (including bad weather). But Have you any good alternative ideas? There must be something I have overlooked. Evil O |

| Sarta03-12-04, 09:18 PM | Don't forget the obligatory fly-by from Nevalarich as they sail past the neck. Sarta |
| Evil O03-13-04, 03:41 AM | Sarta, what are Nevalarich and where do they figure, in MM II? I do not have that nor do I have Field Folio. But your idear might work, are they some sort of WaterDragon? Is it possible to create a Water monser they cant overcome by other means but list and cunning?! Evil O |
| Hoondatha03-13-04, 09:50 PM | The best thing I can suggest is to get the Sea of Fallen Stars accessory, as it deals extensively with that body of water, what's above it and especially what's below it. Sahuagin are unlikely unless you stray over towards Aglarond, but virtually any other marine monster is possible (merrow, scrags, ixachaxitl (sp?), tako, eyes of the deep, kelpies, kraken, voadyanoi, vurgens, and the various underwater undead). Also, remember that these monsters don't fight fair. No need to storm the ship when you can just knock holes in it and wait for it to sink. Now, this may be taking your party somewhere you don't want, but I've always been partial to underwater campaigns, and they don't get better than Seros (what's under the Sea of Fallen Stars). |

Nevalarich is a red dragon that dwells in the southern tip of the Thunder Peaks. He has been known in the past to fly off with entire ships in his grip. There is actually a protection racket that staves off attacks. However, Nevalarich will still undoubtedly do a fly-by just to let the ship know why they are paying cash. Occasionally, it isn't Navalarich, but instead the dracolich Aurgloroasa magically disguised as him. More info can be found in Elminster's Ecologies and the supplement Cult of the Dragon. Sarta |
| Kash Darreder03-14-04, 03:13 AM | There are pirares in the the sea of fallen stars, and some of those pirates are undead or scrags. KD |
| Lashan03-16-04, 01:11 PM | I agree that some of the best combat can be with other humans. There are pirates and others that an cause all sorts of issues. I also agree that the Pirates of the Inner Sea can be a great supplement to use. There are a lot of 3rd party rules out there for sea combat that could come in handy. |
| Evil O03-18-04, 03:59 AM | So you would try other humans, like Pirates, or undead, Hmmm, maybe that can work. The yuan-ti is, as far as I recall, living in the area of Sea of Fallen Stars but the idea of the Dragon can be cool, I did think of something like that but not yet come up with the right idea, now I have it: A Dragon flying by to show why the ship pays a "protection" toll. The thought of Suagin is not my cup of tea, I hate them as much as I hate Troglodytes!!(or however they are spelled) But is there anywhere the stats from a WaterDragon exists? I think I have seen it a while back in some book, possilbly in 2nd edition, can any of you remember it of where I might find it? Evil O |
| Monsoon2803-18-04, 04:32 AM | Are you referring to the Dragon Turtle? Those were big bad Mutha - "you watch your mouth!" ;) |
| Crispus_Lyons03-24-04, 11:48 AM | Or the dreaded Zartan! An island on the back of a massive turtle. I read an article a while back (don't remember where) that talked about these two island tribes that warred on the back of the Zartan which were also enemies with each other. I've always wanted to run a sea-campaign and all this talk has made me hungry to throw at least a few adventures in the various seas and oceans of Faerun. Yo ho, indeed! ~C.L. |
