This is a Demon or Daemon, named Malkazid which appears in a novel that shall remain nameless. Does this char appear anywhere else??? It would probably be a prince of its kind.

The only other reference to him that I can find is in the PGtF where he's listed as a noble Baatezu / Devil rather than a Tanar'ri lord or 'loth.

You'd think the Yugoloths would get more attention in the realms, especially after obliterating Myth Drannor w/ a handful of Nycaloths and their conscripts. *laughs at the elves taken down by sodding Nycaloths*

You should be able to mention the novel's name to help jog some memories. After all you are not talking about the book itself, but looking for more information on a character from the book.

Now, now mighty Shemeska Yugoloths got hosed in the 3.0 translation. While the Arcanoloths did okay (except in the hp department) the mighty Nycoloth has fallen. I yearn for the days of the terrible Nycadaemon of the vault of the drow. Those guys were bad (even if you could take on demon lords by the time you hit double digit levels)!!!

Yeah they did get hosed in comparison to the Baatezu and Tanar'ri. But still, nothing says PC pain like Nycaloths with ranger levels. ;)

That would be worse than fighting a Balor. Since the Nycaloths were melee powerhouses in the first place. Plus with the revision of Wounding, their claws are truly nasty now; 1 point of Con damage per hit.

Out of the High End Fiends, I would rather fight a Balor before I take on a Pit Fiend, in comparision, the Balor is a chump. They got so hosed in the spell-like abitilities department. Only thing they do good is when they die, big explosion :D I mean it has no damaging ones that can be used over and over. While the Pit Fiend can at least Fireball you over and over. It seems the Mightiest of the Fiends are weak in the spell-like abilities department compared to their less powerful relatives, that have things like Unholy Blight at will or Chaos Hammer at will.

The mid-ranged to lower high-end Fiends are the most dangerous, especially if they are customized and given a few class/PrC levels.

Arcanaloth w/ sorcerer and archmage levels, with a grudge against the PCs for threatening him in the middle of a bar in the gate town of excelsior. (Not one of their brighter moments, but they had reason). It got worse when they agreed to follow him and talk things over (In an even less brilliant moment they followed him through a gate back to the the Tower of the Arcanaloths in Gehenna...)

And wounding does con damage in 3.5? *boggle*

Cant remember if the Balor still has blasphemy, it used to be at will and that means that any lower level HD pcs will be stunned every round while the Balors minions rip them to shreds. I think they got rid of this in 3.5 but didn't check

Malkazid appears in Forsaken House, is there anymore info in PGTF and what was the context. Devil huh, interesting... Always did like Devils better than demons...

I'm pretty sure those Nycaloths attacking myth drannor had 20+ class levels with them when they barged in there though. One was a mage (sorcerer probably now) one was a fighter and I'm guessing the other was a cleric. Plus they had lots of viscious magic items with them, but the main tactic was just orc overrun the high levels. The overall weakening of DR in 3.5 makes a hundred archers firing at a given target much more damaging.

In the Epic campaign I ran (started at 5th level), the characters had a hit squad after them lead by a balor Wiz 6. He had buffing spells and items. He was one scary dude.

Yes, you're right about them being a wee bit above a standard Nycaloth, but give a 'loth some pride and let me boast about them kicking tail against some wussy prime material mortals. http://arcanofox.foxpaws.net/shemmywink.gif

As for the 3rd of that group, Yugoloths don't become clerics. If anything in the multiverse is a given it's that no Yugoloth would worship a deity, much less become a cleric of one of them. They abhor the divine, Khin-Oin in the Waste is carved from the spine of a dead god, and the closest they'll get to worship of anything is their fear/adoration of the Baernaloths.

Nope. According to Cormanthyr and the Fall of Myth Drannor, the three nycaloths had the following specializations/positions: overall general (aulmpitor (sp?) ), scout master/spy, and berserking field commander.

Of course, you could always GIVE them character levels, but they didn't have them in 2E. And you can't say that it was because fiends in 2E didn't have levels, because spellcasting fiends were presented in Hellbound and expanded upon in A Guide to Hell. :)

I just always figured that Logic dictated that they have some class levels, otherwise all three are going to be toast before the battle even gets close to myth drannor. Maybe they were unique in some other way. Advanced Nycaloths, extra HD etc... They would still just be nycaloths, I don't know off hand what CRs they advance to but they would have to be at least 25 to 27 to have any credibility.

Well, remember that so far, all references/sources we have of Myth Drannor and Cormanthyr was 2E, where character levels given to monsters typically wasn't common - mostly because monsters back then were bad-ass enough to kill people without character levels.

For the campaign that I'm running, wherein the PC's have just received information that Aulmpiter's forces have entrenched at Oloriil, I'm planning on rough CR's of 25-31 for the three Nycaloths. I don't know their exact class breakdowns yet, but I know a few things I'm going to want to see:

Gaulguth: Barbarian X/Frenzied Berzerker 4+/War Hulk X

War Hulk levels are tentative right now. I don't know if I want him THAT dumb.

Malimshaer: Rogue X/Wizard X/ ??

Not sure how to do this one.

Aulmpiter: Either Paragon Nycaloth Fighter 6, Fighter 18, or Marshal 18... not sure on that one either.

If anyone has ideas for me on them, I'll be posting a thread on the People & Places thread sometime soon.

You might want to look at the PrCs in the Book of Vile Darkness. Some of those might work well. And I don't know about giving Malimshaer wizard levels... That seems a bit off to me.

Wow, those would be some pretty buff Nycaloths. *blink*

"Is Malimshaer dating anyone at the moment, because well, you know... oh oh! If he needs anyone to sponsor his promotion to arcanaloth, well I'm open for it!" http://arcanofox.foxpaws.net/shemmywink.gif

Manual of the Planes had the stats for both of them. Better flavor text however can be found in the Planescape Monstrous Compendium I, and 'Faces of Evil: The Fiends', also from 2e Planescape.
