Do Body Tamers get the +2 insight bonus for Illithidwrought weapons and armor or just the normal +1? Since they try to give up there Psionic powers, would they count as a non-psionic creature?

good question. Does the description for illithidwrough items say that the wearer gets the bonus if they're psionic or if they've got psionic power points?

I could be wrong mind you, but that would mean that illithids *always* get bonuses from illithid wrough items while other races would have to spend time/effort unlocking thier psionic potential before getting anything out of anything illithidwrought - which would seem to me to be the whole point of illithidwrought items.

Or, I could shut up and go back to downing coffee and watching my incrimental backups fail.

So far as I can tell, yes.

No. They abstain from the use of psionics, but (as their description indicates) are perfectly willing to Plane Shift out of danger if that is their only means of escape.

IDHTUBIFOM, so YMMV. ;)

Ok, then the Illithid in CotSQ will become a Illithid Body Tamer, with Illithidwrought weapons and armor.

(I don't care what people say useless PrC, those Underdark Monster PrC are great for DM's who want to spice up an encounter)

Interesting, that's exactly what I plan to do as well!

I agree 100%! After all, what player is going to expect to battle an armored Illithid that can suck Brains out at 15 feet!

Oh, now that's something I've GOT to use in this week's game. And the party IS in Gauntlygrym.....

BTW - my players are going to hate you.

Hey, it's all good. Us DM's need to share the love, after all. :smirk:

FWIW, I would use Body Tamers in conjunction with an advanced Roper or two. The sheer number of grapple checks you'll have to make will ensure at least a couple of PC's are tied up trying to break free of grapples, all while either loosing Strength or their brains (or both, if you're lucky!) :b: :b:

I also like to use Ropers with a Symbol of Stunning Trap.

But I digress.

I was thinking of using an illithid body tamer paired up with another 'regular' illithid psion. The body tamer would be his (its?) bodyguard in the strike team. Two critter hunter/killer teams roaming the haunted ruins of Gauntlygrym - fighting off teams of Orogs, duegar and the odd githzeri warband(s).

My players are gonna love it!

Ok, well - *I'll* love it. My players might have other ideas. But I like the ropers....maybe a half-illithid roper psion for kicks. Not sure yet. But you've given me food for thought.

er. pardon the pun.
