WARNING: CONTAINS SPOILERS for both Incursion (Dragon #309) and City of the Spider Queen

I've been thinking about running the Githyanki Incursion from Dragon Magazine in Dalelands campaign. Since there's a thread going for the Silver Marches, anyone who has any advice, ideas, in-my-campaigns, etc., feel free to post em. In the meanwhile, I'm working on two ideas:

- I don't necessarily want to kill Elminster, just get him outta the way... there's no way I can invade Cormyr or the Dalelands with him there. The article recommended "distracting" him or imprisoning him... but I have no idea how that could happen, aside from the Lich Queen herself showing (very unlikely, she probably wouldn't want to leave the Astral Plane in any case, especially not to fight Elminster). Any ideas?

- At first, I was worried; the Incursion really kicks off when the players hit 8-10th level, and I had already bought City of the Spider Queen for this group. Then it hit me... why not mix? Instead of a boring savage-race/demon army laying seige to the drow city, why not the githyanki? The Lich Queen would certainly be happy to take out a large bastion of drow power in the Dalelands, especially in the weak state it's in. Imagine; red dragons flying above the city on patrol, and a planar raider can be seen hovering at the very top of the cavern, it's troops being shuttled down in astral brigs. (it would've had to have been gated in, I suppose; good luck manuevering that thing down into the Underdark;) ). I'm getting visions of PCs hijacking an astral skiff, and having to pilot it through a tunnel- while githyanki from skiffs on their tail keep dimension-dooring on board! Huzzah!

Like I said, any ideas/advice?

Time the events to run alongside the period of time where Elminster is in Hell, as per the novels.

That is, if you are not an "I Hate Novels" kinda person that doesn't incorporate stuff that happens in novels if it hasn't shown up in a rulebook, yet.

That will get rid of the Simbul, as well as the uber powered folks that go to rescue Elminster.

I agree. The Drow have been done to death in the annals of Realms villany.

Establishing the Githyanki as major players could be fun.

NPC's are only there if you want them to be there. the chosen dont always stop every invasion, there could be more importent matters at hand across the world or on other plains

That sounds very cool! Just image what would happen if they crashed. They would be injured, possibily missing equipment and stranded behind enemy lines...

Masakado brings up an excellent idea for you.

Personally, I run my campaign in the Dalelands, the Shadowdale area to be specific (and have been doing so for almost 5 years). Currently, Elminster is "missing." Whether my players have read Elminster in Hell or not (none of them have), they still know that he's in Hell, or at the very least resting up from a recent rescue. He hasn't shown his face, and I'm using that to allow a trio of phaerimm to attempt to take hold of the Dales in his absence. It's led to two attempted sieges of the Twisted Tower (the most recent is happening now as the PCs battle vampires and dragons beneath Castle Grimstead).

The novels allow for a great deal. If the players and the DM are reading them, then the campaign takes a much different (and more concrete) shape.

Oooh... another thought to throw into the mix:

Reading another post, I was reminded that Lloth is missing... while it would be in the style of the Lich Queen to strike the drow at this time of weakness, imagine the Lich Queen herself had arranged for Lloth to be... occupied. Nothing says "Whoa, this Lich Queen sounds dangerous!" than having her be the cause of a god's disappearance. Obviously, she probably couldn't kill Lloth, just divert her until the Queen could achieve godhood.

I don't know if I was clear about my ideas... I was actually going to have the drow city (Maerimydra?) getting under seige by the githyanki, instead of a goblin/demon/fire giant army. I adds a level of danger to the githyanki, when they're trashing the drow... besides, it seems that they'res always armies of golbins and orcs causing trouble, we've seen them enough.
