| SinisterPansy08-25-03, 11:08 AM | (Posted to Geography section but not getting much of a response) I'm starting an evil campaign and I'm planning on sending my evil PC's into some town in the Western Heartlands (probably Beregost). In general theyre going to try to undermine the authority of that town/city-state and eventually start pulling strings. Now... about the Lord Alliance... I dont know much about them but I'm assuming their purpose is to watchguard the trading/merchant interests of some of the more politically active cities in the Western Heartlands, the Sword Coast and perhaps the North... Where do cities like Beregost (a 'large town' of about 3,000 inhabatants, which sits RIGHT on the major trade rout between Amn and Baldurs Gate/Waterdeep) stand in regards to the Lords Alliance? I imagine when the PC's start making some more radical changes that will raise the eyebrows of the the Lords Alliance. My questions: Wwhat kind of clout does the Lords Alliance have and in regards to which towns? Is a town like Beregost below their notice? Beregost really isn't anythig more than a way-station I think. What kind of forces do the Lords Alliance have at their disposal? |

Which raises the questions... if an evil orginazation were to overcome the governing forces there (the town is its own city-state and under the theocratic rule of the Church of Lathandar) would anyone care enough to stop it? One might ask the question: what interest does the evil orginazation have in Beregost... well, the answer to that is simply the evil orginazation just wants to see the powers of Lathander extinguished in the area. So I guess I just answered my own question... I suppose the Church of Lathandar would retaliate... sending in larger forces to weed out the evil that then would infests the town. |

(just seem to recall that for some reason) Could be that the evil peeps are either a) waiting for someone/thing to pass through the town b) wanting to instate a very heavy tax on those who pass through te town, possibly as a fundraiser to...do something bad...and stuff. c)control trade routes. |
| SinisterPansy08-26-03, 08:45 AM | Yes, Beregost lies right on the Trade Way. You can go around it but there's no major road. Yes. I was planning on having the bad guys subvert the town to evil by driving off the forces of good and using it as a toll stop to raise funds for ... bad stuff... I guess if the town is going to become a toll-stop, THEN the Lords Alliance would step in. If the merchants are being extorted, then surely, the representing body of the Lords Alliance would take some action. |
