I ran a the Base of Operations module a few sessions back and set the town of Marikest in the Western Heartlands to the east of Asbravn right up against where the Far hills and the tributary of the River Chionthar. My question is, now that the pc's have the gem mine opened and have aquired a good base of cash to make the town better, what kind of commercial influences would be coming and from where? It's not too far off the main road through the Western Heartlands for trade to start coming in with the buildup of money the PC's will be spending and the gems coming from the reopened mine. I have a few ideas and the FRCS but any help would be appreciated.

Several economic elements would move in:
1. More laborers and miners...and their families.
2. Mercenaries.
3. Caravan masters and trading coasters.
4. Specialized craftsman.
5. Entertainers: festhall, inn/tavern owners etc.

In effect, a new town would start to form....

You forgot:

6: Raiders, marauders and whatnot of every race to walk, crawl or slither across the heartlands.

7: Zhentarim operators

8: Emmisaries from other lands and cities

9: Thieving elements

OK, maybe I do sound like a pessimist. :D

No, no! Good point.

Therein exists the reasons for the heroes to be on the scene or atleast why the heroes would want to go to some backwater mining town.
