Shi'ar Morpheus 01-17-07, 05:44 PM	I'm setting up a scenario for the characters in my game where each one may have the opportunity to be elevated to a favored position in the eyes of one of the gods (if not Chosen status itself). The characters in my game are a human ranger, human barbarian and an elven mage. I can't really envision the barbarian or ranger taking exact cleric levels, and the wizard is more of an archivist. My question is: is it appropriate to give Initiate feats to most divine caster classes like shaman and archivist, thus modifying the prereqs ever so slightly? Please give me your opinion?
BrianCritchley 01-17-07, 06:57 PM	no I'd say it's not approperate, the initate feats are mostly specificly for clergy, and are supposed to give clerics of differnt faiths slightly differnt powers etc, therew are other paths though, the faith feats from complete divine might be workable, especially as those feats IIRC contiuneally reward players for ACTING faithful;
saucercrab 01-17-07, 08:40 PM	I'm gonna' go ahead & disagree with BrianCritchley. Some initiate feats can already be selected by non-clerics (clergy does not always equal cleric). If there is an optional divine casting class that seems appropriate to a specific religion (i.e., it fits a deity's portfolio & so forth), I wouldn't have a problem with allowing it to select the proper initiate feat.
ClobberinTime 01-18-07, 08:07 PM	Yeah, the one I remember is Initiate of Anhur, also Initiate of Selune I think can be taken by rangers as well. I would use the initiate feats as guides to the chosen status, i.e. give them access to certain spells as spell like abilities. Perhaps give the ranger and Barb access to domain spells and abilities at a caster level = to their character level and using their strength or dex as the basis for the save DC. A domain is probably worth a +1 LA.
saucercrab 01-18-07, 10:12 PM	Yeah, the one I remember is Initiate of Anhur, also Initiate of Selune I think can be taken by rangers as well.Hell, look at Initiate of Gruumsh; it requires the ability to cast divine spells, with no particular class(es) needed. Shar's appears the same way, I think.

Cleric seems too limited but pragmatically there's no way WotC could foresee every class that should qualify at time of printing material. Besides, how could a cleric of Silvanus have Initiate of Nature feat and a druid couldn't?! I've got some more questions for later too! Thanks again everyone.
dragonheart 01-21-07, 06:11 PM	As suggested depending on the deity other clerical casting classes could potentially gain the Initiate of ... feat. ANother thought is create a different sort of reward for those who do something especially pleasing for a deity - possibly not even their own. In my campaign this is called Favoured of ... and depending on just what you did it grants 1 - 4 feats or special bonuses. for instance: you are one of the party that frees Waukeen from Grazz't in "For God and Glory" while they have some rewards listed they strike me as being pretty paltry given that you have just restored a deity to her seat. So perhaps recieving the streetwise feat as a bonus feat, or getting a +2 bonus on all checks involving haggling for the next 10 years.

According to Player's Guide to Faerun, Cleric OR Druids of Eldath, Mielikki or Silvanus can select the Initiate of Nature feat. I don't see an issue with extending initiate feats to other divine casters (such as a Ranger), as that's the point of them, but a barbarian or wizard is right out.
